Best way to get rid of ants?

I have an ant problem. I can't even tell what they're going after, and I just cleaned the floor, but they're trekking along the edge of my kitchen floor for something.
Anyway, I got some "tat" ant traps, which have been out for a couple days, and all it seems to be doing is getting the ants stoned. Now they don't walk in a straight line, they wander around across the floor, but they're not dying and there doesn't seem to be less of them. Now they're probably coming here just to get a buzz.

Do you guys have anything that works better for getting rid of ants?

First of all, keep an immaculate kitchen. That will help discourage the little buggers. No food, they'll go looking elsewhere. Second, look into some sort of pesticide. If you have pets, make sure it won't harm them.

I live near the beach and I've tried to get rid of the damn things for 3 years! I guess they like the sand. As already stated, keep all food off the counters and sealed away. That's what they are looking for.

There's no food that I've been able to find. :) I can't really go around spraying any pesticides outside, or lighting anything on fire for that matter. I live in an apartment. :)

I've always used the ant drops. Drop them around the corners and what not and a couple of days later no more ants. It works great.

It's fun to watch ants kill each other when you take a shovel and drop one mound on top of another. :D

A couple months ago there was a thread about this when my apt got ant infested.

the solution was to take a bowl and fill it w/ honey + peroxide or bleach i dont remember..

the ants will swarm to eat it, but they can't taste the poison..after a couple days thre should be no more ants as they fed it to the queen and all the colony

Use lots of Ortho Sevin® Garden Dust. It's really safe, so sprinkle it all over where they walk.

I'd be looking for moisture around there somewhere. Are you over a crawl space? Sleepers? Plumbing or drain leaking nearby? There's water there somewhere or there wouldn't be any ants.

Feed them. I had ants in my apt this summer, it was easy to get rid of them. I placed a paper cup with syrup outside my front door 15 ft. away, they couldn't have been happier. Then, every few days I'd toss it in the fire and place a new one. Presto, no more pesky ants in my house.

Ortho Fire Ant Killer. Nothing better. Or put on some Britney Spears and they burst into flames. ;)
