If I recall correctly, in elementary school, we used magnifying glasses at recess, until the teacher took them away. :(

<< Ortho Fire Ant Killer. Nothing better. Or put on some Britney Spears and they burst into flames. ;) >>

Dude, I'm not looking to commit suicide here.

Anyway it sounds like there are some really good suggestions here (mixed in with some really awful suggestions), and I'll start trying them if my ants aren't gone tomorrow. Since posting my first message, they seem to have diminished. But then it's getting late, maybe they're just sleeping. Do ants sleep?

According to this site, you can use Gold Medal flour (or any flour, I imagine):

<< Fill cracks and make a line with Gold Medal Flour where ants enter. Ants will not cross through flour. >>

Here's what it says about Maxwell House coffee:

<< Sprinkle dried Maxwell House coffee grounds outside doorsand cracks. Coffee deters ants. >>

You have no hope, resistance is futile....they are the Borg.

Seriously, the drops work for me, as mentioned here already, though it helps to figure out what they're after so you get the right stuff. Failing that, get the flashlight and find out
where the little bastards are coming in, and seal it up. Lastly, call the exterminator, see if you can get the landlord to pay for it.

Good luck.

i've heard mixing boric acid (borax) and black pepper will kill them.

Also, they can't cross a chalk line. It messes up the pheremones or whatever they use to follow each other, so they'll get all mixed up and not come that way anymore.

So far you got 32 insane people to post. Live with them. They don't hurt nothing. I got um all over my house and they don't bother me a tall except when I want to wash my hands or take a shower. Then ya gots ta waste precious minutes saving their little butts from getting washed down the drain. I become a master of moistening my finger just so and sticking um to it where i can flick um against the wall somewhere safe where I won't step on um. There they stick tell they crawl far enough to loose enough water to break the adhesion. Ants are a miracle of nature, an ancient life form, and a feat of chemical engineering.

let them back in a straight line, and look where they're coming from, and flood it with the pesticide of your choice.

I can't believe everyone has overlooked the obvious. Get a pet anteater!! Anteaters are sweet, they can consume up to 30,000 ants and other miscellaneous insects a day!! That should take care of whatever ant problem you've got.

<< It's fun to watch ants kill each other when you take a shovel and drop one mound on top of another >>

Hmmm...might have to try that with fireants!

<< Raid >>

We talkin' SCSI or EIDE, and explain how that will help him! ;)

<< Do ants sleep? >>

I'm pretty sure they don't. I wish I could be like that. A third of your life is spent sleeping (only if you get enough sleep, I guess).
