Best way to cure hiccups

I do it by relaxing, shutting out distraction as best as possible, and then focusing on taking deep slow breaths.

pinch your nose with your index fingers, put a thumb in each ear and use the remaining fingers to pick up a glass of water and drink it. All at the same time. It works. Seriously.

Similar here. If I just focus on consistent breathing, I rarely experience more than 5 hiccups; usually they're gone in just two. But I only get them maybe 2-3x a year.

BTW, I do it by basically following the scare technique.
I do whatever I can to try and trick my body into believing I was just scared. The whole take your breath away due to fear thing. It jumps the body and tends to do the trick.
But half of the trick is immediately following up that with focusing on breathing. Doing what you can to forget that you just had the hiccups, and focusing on not having them by taking slow, steady breaths with rhythm.

But for scaring yourself, it's easy. Quickly turn your head, focus your eyes on something really quick that was originally out of your sight, and acting like you were just really surprised by what you just saw. Act like what you just laid your eyes upon was horribly disturbing or scary. Natural reaction is to kind of drop your breath, your whole body tenses and "jumps", and you really focus. The point being you focus, basically losing focus on your hiccups (which everyone, when having persistent hiccups, focuses on said hiccups because they are so damned annoying), and turning focus onto something else.
This "scare" tactic helps because it preps you to shift into something else. Immediately after the "scare" you should change your breathing, continue to forget about the hiccups and move on. It usually works right away, and if it does not, do it again. And again if necessary. After a few times, it should always work. If it is not, it is because you are moving back to focusing on the hiccups every time. I'm guilty of this even when I've perfected the trick I basically invented for myself. It's just so hard to cease focusing on the hiccups when you want to forget about them. It's almost like telling someone to ignore the bright light without closing your eyes when the bright light is the only thing you can see wherever you look. 😉

Wow, that totally worked! I just did that and it was gone in a couple of seconds. Thanks. 😀

There are as many cures as there are people. Different things work for different people.

Me. Drinking a large glass of water in one long gulp.

Hahaha, I know it sounds odd, but it works. The way it was said to me was "plug every orifice while drinking a glass of water" I was like that's not going to happen.

ZOMG!!! i hate the cursed hiccups but I had a miracle worker one night. It was happy hour, I had drank wait too much way too quick. Was still daylight and I had downed 3 stone russian imperial stouts ~13%). So Im panting outside... trying to hold my breath to kill the retched hiccups when a friends girlfriend comes outside. She says "hey! I can cure you.... put your finger up... come as closet to my finger without touching it.." Holy mother of everything jesus holy. I was concentrating so hard... the hiccups vanished. It was amazing. I normall have to hold my breath for 4-6 tries or drink like... 5 glasses of water. but this time.. oh man... highly recommended!!

take a large glass of water. time your hiccups and swallow just when you think the next hiccup is coming. you will feel it get stuck midway down your throat, the water and the hiccup, and get pushed down. hiccups gone. it feels a little weird but its the fastest way to get rid of it.

This works for me everytime and I haven't seen anyone suggest it - take a plastic bag and breathe out into it, then breathe in (from the plastic bag), etc. So basically you're inflating/deflating the bag with each breath. Don't take a breath of fresh air. I remember being told hiccups are caused by an imbalance of carbon dioxide or some other atmospheric gas in your body, and this is something you can fix by "recycling" your breaths, essentially.

Just keep doing that for like 10min and you'll never have to worry about hiccpus again.

One lemon wedge dusted with white sugar with a few shots of Angostura bitters on it. Chew it up, sans rind, and that's it. An old Dutch bartender at my dad's dive club taught me that back in the day, it actually works.

I concentrate on breathing, controlling my breathing, holding my breath as long as possible. Works everytime for me, I got the technique down.

THIS WORKS: Ignore what others have said. Stand up, hold your breath, clog your nose, and then squat down while holding your breath (this puts pressure on your lungs).

This works for me every time, but as stated above, not everything works for every one.

Swallow i sip of water while leaning forward as far as you can(basically so your head & throat are upside down).

A few things that work for me:

take a few deep breaths really quickly - this works pretty consistently.
taking a deep breath and hold it for a while - sometimes works
gulp water and then burp - works sometimes
grabbing your throat like you're choking yourself - don't know if it has anything to do with pressure points or something but this oddly helps occasionally.

This is exactly what I do, combined with periods of holding my breath.
