Very tough.

Replay: Starcraft
One-Run-Through: FF7
Revolutionary: Doom

I'll have to think about it. Give me a few days.

Civilization, Tie Fighter, and any of the NASCAR racing games do it for me. Call of Duty is my gaming crack fix of the moment though.

I can't make up my mind so I'd have to go with the Zelda and Final Fantasy series. Out of that I"d say Zelda: link to past on snes and ocaraina of time. and FF 5,6,7, and erm crono trigger/cross.

Battlezone for the PC. Released in 1997 and there are still some folks who play it online. A cool combination of combat and strategy.

Yeah, wtf?
How can you leave off a game that won multiple awards and blew away everything that had come before it.

Quake II and III. Screw Halo and Battlefield and all those other generic war games; these two had class.

I really liked the Doom Series, I really loved Duke 3d, but I think the game that really got me the most into gaming is Quake & Quake2, followed very very closely by Half life. Then, my third favorite game ever is Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

CounterStrike is just a mod for half life, IMO BF1942 Desert Combat is a much better game. I liked HL: TFC the best, however, RTCW: ET has replaced it as my team game of choice (well, and BF1942 & Vietnam)

Starcraft was OK, I liked Total Annihilation quite a bit more (with Core Contingency mod). I also like the age of empires series better.

Then theres Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2 (I didn't care for 3). IMO these were much cooler than the GTA series ... (Though I have killed many an hour playing langames of GTA and GTA2).

Unreal is kinda bland IMO ...

What about Farcry? I agree its not the greatest game ever, but cmon' Halo? How can that possibly compete against Far Cry? (OK maybe apples and oranges here ... but Farcry is just soooo much better)

Quake II was a great game. I played it for a solid year. Quake III was nothing but added eye candy.

Battlefield 1942 is NOT a generic war game. It was revolutionary in the way it took the standard FPS genre and added so much more with the ability to operate so many different kinds of vehicles in so many ways. The amazing thing is that they were able to balance the game so no one vehicle or class has a distinct advantage over all the others. There is so much variety in BF that it has kept thousands of people intensely occupied for almost 2 years now.

Those were probably my three favorite games ever.

x-com was trully brilliant, especially for its own time. in fact i played few days playing it again just recently, what a coincidence :D

op i say how about categorize it with each genre? like best RTS, best FPS, best fighting, best RPG, etc... i just cant come to decide which genre i like more.

Xwing vs TIE fighter. omg i loved that game. Before I started first person shooters, that was all i played for a few years online. My first online clan was in XvT (ah yes, AOD - Angels of Death) :(
