Honestly, I'd have to say the first Zelda for NES and A Link to the Past on SNES were both better then Ocarina of Time

The first zelda for the NES was revolutionary and started the series but Ocarina of time truely draws the player into the game that no other has ever been to do.

I wouldn't say any one series is the best, but of all the games here's my take:

Quake 1 for defining the 3d FPS genre.
Duke Nukem for most entertaining.
ModemWars (C=64) most original and addictive.

(These are just PC games... I don't do much console stuff.)

best game ever can only be measured in total sales. (tetris of all things actually wins)

what an individual decides will always vary.

personally BF1942 revolutionized competetive/co-operative online play.

Those were probably my three favorite games ever.

x-com was trully brilliant, especially for its own time. in fact i played few days playing it again just recently, what a coincidence :D

op i say how about categorize it with each genre? like best RTS, best FPS, best fighting, best RPG, etc... i just cant come to decide which genre i like more.

I see Smash Brothers on the list and am puzzles by this. Is Super Smash Brothers for N64 better than for GameCube? I have never played the N64 version, but bought it for my GameCube because my brother liked it so much but I have not been impressed with it. I like fighting games like the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter series and could play them for hours, but I just don't have fun with this one. I do ok with it but have not mastered all the moves. Is this a game you really need to know how to play to enjoy? Maybe I can't get used to all the funky camera moves as your playing or something like that. I want to like this game but don't.
