So I am taking my buddy to WonderCon in LA this weekend for his birthday. I know that he likes steaks and wanted to take him to a really steakhouse for his birthday dinner. Other than Ruth's Chris (SP?) and Steakhouse 55 (@ Disneyland Hotel), I don't know of any other steakhouses in the LA area. Any ATOT'ers care to help me out here?

Cut
Maestro
Chi Spacca - while not a true steakhouse, they have a $175 cut of meat.

If money is no object go to cut, if money is somewhat of an object go to Maestro. If you need lower tier options let me know your budget and I'll give you recs accordingly.

Cut. Though I'm not gonna lie, I loved going to Original Pantry after a concert or game after midnight for a steak.

That $175 cut is bistecca fiorentina...a special cut of steak that weighs up to 3 lbs and is usually flame grilled with a lot of onions. I've only seen in once in Chicago and it was shared by 4 people. Imagine a Flintstone's T-bone steak.

Neither place lists the price of the steaks so makes me curious exactly how much a steak would cost lol

Is cut THAT much better then Mastros?

Any preference as to which Mastro's to go to or does it not matter?

Also, what's the dress code like at these places? I'm assuming that shorts and a t-shirt are a no go lol

So NS1 let me ask you this, I was thinking about going to Amalfi's on La Brea one night, Either Mastro's or CUT on another, and I have yet to decide where to go for 2 other nights lol. Where would you recommend? Preferably cheaper than Mastro's/CUT lol

LA dressy, which means nice jeans + collared shirt, preferably button up.

With steak, there is a very very high level of diminishing returns. @CUT you are really paying for the BH swankiness + top tier meat.

Does not really matter which Mastro's (I believe there is one in CM), but you MUST get the lobster mac & cheese.

For LA Mastro's hands down, if you don't mind driving a bit Donnovan's in La Jolla is probably the best steak I've ever had. Mastro's is freaking fantastic though, and their mac and cheese was superb.

my friends and I tried both - Cut and Maestro. The unanimous decision goes to Maestro.
Personally, I like Cut a bit more, it has the LA chic vibe and has a more diverse menu; the overall dining experience won me over, but if I am specifically going for the Steak, Maestro gets a my vote.

i also like Houston too, certainly a tier or two lower than Cut and Maestro, but it is more affordable.

Ok, so sounds like Mastro's is the best choice. I'll try for a reservation there.

Amalfi's is partly owned by Adam Carolla. The reason I want to try it, is because they have his beverage Mangria, https://buymangria.com, on tap so I wanted to try it without having to pay $30+ for a bottle (Majority of the cost is the shipping.)

IU really haven't set one to be honest, lol. After the week I've had, I'm just looking to have a good time. I'd say if I can keep it under $400 for the weekend, meal wise, I'd be good with that.

@McLovin how old are you btw?

I would honestly say fuck the american steakhouse and go to Park's BBQ in koreatown. Spend $150 bucks and eat like the king of all kings.

I LOOOOOVE Korean BBQ, but haven't had it in quite some time. I love Bulgogi. Is that $150 for just one person? Holy shit that had better be a lot of food lol.

No, and that's exactly what I'm saying. For $150 you and another person could buy all the wagyu you want, all the alcohol you want, shrimp, sides, etc.

You go to Maestro's with $150 and you'll end up with what? 2 steaks and some water, maybe a coffee and dessert to split? lol

Mastros, Mastros, Mastros.

Any location is fine. I went to the one in Costa Mesa but the Beverly Hills one is awesome.

lol no, Park's has blown up so they have a lot of english on the menu. You know the english prices are right next to the korean ones haha. Prices are $20-30 for meats, I think $40-60 for wagyu (although I could be wrong).

Sides are ~$10, side entrees $20-30

I usually spend 30pp eating casually, 50pp eating hard/drinking hard. Corkage is $25/bottle if wine is your thing. Otherwise alcohol is surprisingly cheap...

Thanks for the offer. If you're serious we can do an ATOT meetup and I'll bring some wine or pre-dinner "food enhancement" activities. I love Park's, what can I say =P
