Too hard to decide. They consistently put out very good episodes each season. I can think of episodes across a number of them that are pretty good. I mean cmon, hell this past season had the Guitar Hero episode and the Heavy Metal episode.

Yeah, the cheesing episode was awesome.

Just start with Season 1. There are likely better Seasons, but all Seasons have great episodes and some Episodes flashback to previous ones.

So can someone tell me which is the best season to go buy if I want to try this show? I have friends that have seen most of the shows, but they don't know which ones are from which season and are pretty much useless when I ask them.

I've seen a few episodes I thought were funny, Tom Cruise in the closet and the WoW episodes are the ones that stand out in my head, but I can't remember any others.

Here is a list of the seasons/episodes on Wiki if anyone needs the reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L...of_South_Park_episodes

Yes I'm a grown man asking for advice on South Park. I don't care.

Thanks in advance.

KT

You really have to be a grown man to fully enjoy South Park anyway, or at least a very mature and knowledgeable youngster. So many of the episodes are parodies of old TV shows, movies, 80s fads, old pop culture references, literary references, etc etc that much of the sarcastic bite of the series would fly over the head of your average kid.

Well that's good to know and it does seem accurate from the few episodes I've watched.

I think I'll go pick up Season 5 today and see how that goes. I'm leery of the first season or two because of the Simpsons. I remember loving the first couple of seasons of the Simpsons when it first came out, but now if I go back and watch episodes from those seasons I just find it painful. Not sure the same thing would apply here, but that is what's going through my head.

It's hard for me to suggest a season as others have said that the show has some really good episodes scattered all about and the rest aren't bad... just not as laugh out loud funny.

One of the things that made many of the episodes great was how they were able to quickly react to current events. There were a lot of references to things that had just happened during the previous week. In fact, sometimes the references are so subtle, that in watching the episode a few years after it originally aired, you might not recognize the satire.

I think the best way to go about it, rather than view one season, would be to view particular episodes. You've gotta watch season 1 episode 1 (Cartman Gets an Anal Probe) - that was in the early days when they relied on a lot more toilet humor. But, it introduces the characters fairly well.

From season 1, I'd recommend Pinkeye, Damien, Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut
Season 2: chickenlover
Season 3: Rainforest Shmainforest, *The Succubus (Chef's mother is hilarious & you'll now know why $3.50 will forevermore be referred to as "tree-fiddy") if you were to watch the Jakovasaurus episode, it's helpful to know it was a reference to jar jar binks from Star Wars
Season 4:
Season 5: Cripple Fight, *Scott Tenorman Must Die, Cartmanland, Towelie, How to Eat with Your Butt, Proper Condom Use, Super Best Friends
Season 6: Freak Strike, Professor Chaos, Simpson's Did It, *The Return of the Lord of the Rings to the Two Towers, *The Biggest Douche in the Universe (chef's parents return), My Future Self n' Me
Season 7: Krazy Kripples, All About the Mormons, maybe Toilet Paper, Casa Bonita

Someone else can recommend seasons 8-12... this is taking too long!
Season 8:

You forgot to mention the Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka in season 2. 😉

I think season 5 is probably my favorite. Haven't really watched much past season 7 but the few that I did see just didn't really leave me in stitches like some of the ealier episodes.

Season 1 and 2 were definitely different than the later ones. It was a much more "Raw" production that took longer to complete and they couldn't respond to current events as quickly as they did in later seasons.

i hope south park comes to blu ray soon. still have an episode of good times with weapons in HD on my xbox 360. looks really good

the seasons 5+ have all been great the 1st 4 were really good but 5 IMO is where it started to shine

8 and 9 are good as well, whatever season the Hippy epicode is in is great as well

No mention of World of Warcraft Episode? I'm shocked. I loved every season.

Well I mentioned it in the OP if that counts. Very funny stuff.

Well I just found season 5 on eBay for $20 BiN with $8 shipping, which is pretty cheap I think, so I guess i'll just go that route.

for those of you that wear and eye patch and have a pegleg

mrtwig.net

also allsp.com does an awsome job of crashing IE when i click on it

There are so many excellent episodes across all seasons. I think I like episode 1 the best, by a very very small amount, only because it was what first exposed me to south park years and years ago.

why would you go to a sub-par site when you can get it from the creators for FREE at www.southparkstudios.com? You only have to watch a 15 second commerical every 7 minutes. Totally worth it to me!

Because we'd determined several posts up that the official site does not work here.

The newer seasons aren't as funny, they all seem like they're trying to prove a point, and pretty forcefully, at that. The older eps, when pushing a point, did so more gracefully and entertainingly. That being said, it's tough to pick a favorite season, some of the earlier ones had great episodes throughout, but I think I'd have to pick 3.

My thoughts exactly. I hate it when the writers try to force their opinions through the show. Thats why I stopped watching.
