Best South Park season (poll!)

So can someone tell me which is the best season to go buy if I want to try this show? I have friends that have seen most of the shows, but they don't know which ones are from which season and are pretty much useless when I ask them.

I've seen a few episodes I thought were funny, Tom Cruise in the closet and the WoW episodes are the ones that stand out in my head, but I can't remember any others.

Season 5 is my favorite.

Scott Tenorman Must Die, Cripple Fight, Cartmanland, Proper Condom Use, Towelie, How to Eat with Your Butt, The Entity, Kenny Dies.

All classic episodes.
 
Anything Season 8 or below is probably the best seasons. The new ones just arent that great in my opinion compared to the older episodes.

I have seasons 2,5, and 8 on DVD

I would go with either 8, or 3,4,or5

Amost all of the episodes on those seasons are pretty funny.

edit: You can watch full episodes on the south park website now, that may give you a little taste of each season. Theres commercial breaks though
 
That's a tough decision. My two all-time favorite episodes are Die, Hippie, Die (season 9) and Return of Chef (season 10). I think all in all, season 11 was pretty fantastic though.

Tough call indeed....
 
season 9 was pretty damn good. two days before the day after tomorrow, follow that egg!, best friends forever, the death of eric cartman, trapped in the closet... i could go on. just about every episode was terrific.
 
All the seasons have 3-4 very good episodes and for the rest of the episodes people have varying opinions.
I would suggest just watching them online on the official website - southparkstuodios

Oh man, what a tough choice.

I must tout the later seasons, highlight include:

Season 9: Die, Hippie Die..The Losing Edge...Ginger Kids...Bloody Mary
Season 10: The Return of Chef...ManBearPig...Tsst...Hell on Earth 2006...Go God Go Parts I and XII

Really, every season has a few gold nuggest. Truly a mark of a great show.

 
I don't remember, there are too many. I like the ginger kid episode where cartman made the ginger kid eat his parents. pwnage!

Too hard to decide. They consistently put out very good episodes each season. I can think of episodes across a number of them that are pretty good. I mean cmon, hell this past season had the Guitar Hero episode and the Heavy Metal episode.

All of them are classics.
 
One of the things that made many of the episodes great was how they were able to quickly react to current events. There were a lot of references to things that had just happened during the previous week. In fact, sometimes the references are so subtle, that in watching the episode a few years after it originally aired, you might not recognize the satire.

I think the best way to go about it, rather than view one season, would be to view particular episodes. You've gotta watch season 1 episode 1 (Cartman Gets an Anal Probe) - that was in the early days when they relied on a lot more toilet humor. But, it introduces the characters fairly well.

From season 1, I'd recommend Pinkeye, Damien, Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut
Season 2: chickenlover
Season 3: Rainforest Shmainforest, *The Succubus (Chef's mother is hilarious & you'll now know why $3.50 will forevermore be referred to as "tree-fiddy") if you were to watch the Jakovasaurus episode, it's helpful to know it was a reference to jar jar binks from Star Wars
Season 4:
Season 5: Cripple Fight, *Scott Tenorman Must Die, Cartmanland, Towelie, How to Eat with Your Butt, Proper Condom Use, Super Best Friends
Season 6: Freak Strike, Professor Chaos, Simpson's Did It, *The Return of the Lord of the Rings to the Two Towers, *The Biggest Douche in the Universe (chef's parents return), My Future Self n' Me
Season 7: Krazy Kripples, All About the Mormons, maybe Toilet Paper, Casa Bonita

Someone else can recommend seasons 8-12... this is taking too long!
