Best Sound card???

What is the best soundcard out there for gaming?

Hmmmm..............That depends. Oh, and I have a question for you.................

"Where is the best place to post a computer hardware question?" NM, I have the answer, NOT IN OT!!!!!!

This gets asked often in General Hardware, a search there should turn up some good threads, an Advanced Search of archived threads will turn up even more.

Creative still isn't bothering to offer Dolby 5.1 encoding of game audio on even the audigy 4, so in one sense the answer is still "an nforce2 motherboard with SoundStorm." 🙂

while we're on the subject, whats the difference between the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro?

One costs way more than the other. I'd take it over to the GH forum because the people will be more knowledgeable about this kinda stuff.

Audigy 2 and Audigy 4 have very little difference, go for an Audigy 2 ZS cause its the best for the buck. You wont notice any difference with cards priced higher.

Why dont you do a search and find out in the gen hardware forum? Its not that hard to do, even a monkey can do it.

Platinum has a 5 1/4" drivebay i/o panel, Platinum Pro has a standalone (external) i/o panel. Gamer has a lot of bundled games, and the regular card is just that - just the card.

i dont see why one would need a good soundcard for gaming?

As I understand it, the Audigy 2 ZS pulls a lot of the sound processing load off the processor, resulting in better framerates by a few fps or so on average in many games. Further, their proprietary EAX means better sound effects, such as echoes in a hallway, etc. Sucks that they're able to patent it and charge an arm & a leg for their cards, but that's how it is. Ironically, other cards, even the $25 Chaintech av710, are better for music. Fortunately you can have two cards 🙂

Btw, why is this in OT? 😕

#1 all around is easily an nForce2 board with SoundStorm. Simply awesome. Creative who?

If your after extra high quality I/O, then an M-Audio board would be a good place to start. Or anything with an ENVY24 or ENVY24HT chip. Creative who?
