A few of mine:

Nightmare Before Christmas (all of it) - Danny Elfman
"Is Your Love Strong Enough" - Legend - Bryan Ferry with David Gilmour
"Netherworld Waltz" - Netherworld - David Bryan
Buckaroo Banzai end title music - Michael Boddicker
"Who Wants To Live Forever" (& etc.) - Highlander soundtrack (A Kind of Magic) - Queen

edit - forgot Queen, thanks Renob

[Armageddon] "I don't want to miss a thing" - Aerosmith
[Sliver] "Can't help falling in love" - UB40

That's the 2 on top of my head when I think about best songs from the movie.

Expect to see a lot of older songs dominate that list - Somewhere Over the Rainbow will probably be #1. With all the soundtracks to mega hit movies that John Williams has written (pretty much any Spielberg or Lucas movie) he'll undoubtedly have at least half a dozen in there. Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, ET, etc.

I tend to like some of the jazzier songs when it comes to movie soundtracks. The Pink Panther theme is a good classic and the original James Bond theme (with the raw guitar intro and brass chorus) both immediately jump to mind.

Good point. Sounds like songs actually.

In that case I change my vote to Tequila in Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure. ;)

Not quite how I'd describe it, "off the hook" is reserved for other music, but its a very good soundtrack.

If we're talking songs (not scores), you know Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" will be on the list! Not that it's one of my top choices.

I nominate "Don't You (Forget About Me)" from "The Breakfast Club" soundtrack :)

If you haven't already, be sure to try some Dead Can Dance as well as Lisa Gerrard's solo The Mirror Pool. A Passage in Time is a great best of / introduction to DCD.
