most under-rated RPG (adventure?) game on SNES is Soul Blazer. It's fvcking incredible, although, it is pretty short/easy.

as others have said, zelda link to the past also.

EDIT: also, Actraiser was badass and is a mixture of RPG/Adventure. very short though.

soulblacer was great as well good music

I love how almost everyone has played all the weird Japanese titles for the SNES...

 for romz and 'latorz.

Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (action rpg)
Mario RPG
Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 3, never released in America so you'd have to emulate this one)

zelda 3 is an adventure game. so is secret of mana.

I stated Zelda is an more of an "action rpg."
no. it's not. it's an adventure game. that is it's genre. not 'action rpg'

actraiser was an action game

sheesh you people don't know your genres at all

Actraiser was half RPG, half action. You built up a city and stuff and talked to the people in the town. the term "RPG" is subjective.

Some people consider Zelda RPG.
Some people consider ONLY turn based fighting games RPG.
Some people consider Diablo RPG.

Those are all 3 different types of games, yet people all call them RPG.

RPG stands for "Role Playing Game" so it is pretty subjective.

EDIT: oh, and a PWNZ0R edit (for you talking bout zelda up a few posts). check out the category.

EDIT 2:

Again ... check out category.
And again...
But you got me on Actraiser.

the city building aspect wasn't rpg, unless you consider sim city an rpg. which it wasn't. and neither was actraiser.

just because kiddies out on the internet do not know their genres does not make them right. the genre 'adventure' slowed down so much in the early/mid 90s (not that there were all that many adventure games to begin with) that people forgot that it existed. about the only ones that existed in that time period was zelda. so, rather than have a genre with just one game in it, all the stores and magazines simply forgot that the genre existed. but it did.

just go look in the original nintendo strategy guide (big black book with tips and secrets for pretty much every nintendo game out, back in the day) circa 1987 to see that i'm right.

breath of fire 1 and 2
Lufia 1 and 2 as well
FF2 and 3 rock as well, but commonly stated
chrono trigger

dont forget D&D Undermountain for SNES...hard as heck, but pretty decent
