Secret of Mana forced me to buy the multiplayer adapter :( it was well worth it though. lots of fun memories.

Earthbound
Breath of Fire 2
Mario RPG
Chrono Trigger
FF3
FF2

Actraiser was more of a strategy than an RPG. It didn't have anything like the point based battle system. Still a great game though.

most under-rated RPG (adventure?) game on SNES is Soul Blazer. It's fvcking incredible, although, it is pretty short/easy.

as others have said, zelda link to the past also.

EDIT: also, Actraiser was badass and is a mixture of RPG/Adventure. very short though.

actraiser was an action game

sheesh you people don't know your genres at all

Actraiser was half RPG, half action. You built up a city and stuff and talked to the people in the town. the term "RPG" is subjective.

What an awesome game, one of the few I could play for hours straight. Actraiser had the best SNES music ever too, I'm still able to remember the best tunes it had! Just a great mix of action, simulation, and role playing with some crazy boss battles. If you haven't played it yet I suggest you ROM it up when you have some freetime.

WHATTTTTTTT!

Ok you guys obviously have not played one of the greatest games ever:

SHADOWRUN

there is a Sega version and an SNES version, both totally different,

and they are fvcking sweet.

I think they got Game of The Year Award, a loooong time ago.

Check it out.

-I agree with Chrono Trigger, FF2 and 3, and Mario RPG.

the hours i wasted on leveling up in FF3 and finding all the endings in Chrono Trigger, probably totals to more hours than I've ever spent on playing with my GC, XBOX and PS2 COMBINED

seriously, you all need to check out Soul Blazer if you have never played it and enjoy games like Zelda. It is a sleeper hit.

OMG thank you. i have been trying to remember the name of that damn game. that was a friggin awesome RPG. the controls were kinda funky at first, but it was so damn cool. there needs to be way more futuristic cyberpunk RPG's.

Everyone seems to think Chrono Trigger was a good RPG. I for one would describe it as mediocre at best; the storyline was beyond dull.

First let's cover the obvious:

Crono Trigger
Secret of Mana/Evermore
Final Fantasy 3
Earthbound
Super Mario RPG

Here are some more obscure ones that I think best even the greatest American ones:

Seiken Densetsu (sp?) aka Secret of Mana 2
Tales of Phantasia
