"We've set out to blow people away with DOOM III, and the demonstration at E3 was a tremendous success," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "People have now seen that in everything from graphics and sound to atmosphere and gameplay, we are creating the most advanced and uniquely frightening game ever."

:D:D

I am very impressed with the game but I wonder what kind of chaos it will bring if the game fails to meet the expectations of everyone. :)

The graphics are awesome but im worried more about the game play. Newer games seem to be more focused on eye candy, and not as much on game play. Wolf3d, Doom/II, and Duke3d were all so fun to play. I cant say the same about any newer games. But we'll see when it comes out.

Looking good!

Only one little thing puzzles me --- those enemies don't have any weapons! Will they just jump at you or what?

Some will have weapons from what I could see in the Doom3 video a while back. There was this one badass demon who carried around a mini-gun/chaingun. Most of them just physically attack you i think, or use fire or something

Sounds good to me. I'm pretty sure that Id won't let many of their monsters be unarmed, of course :D. It would be good if those zombies could yield knives --- chop, chop... LOL :D Anyway, time will show what it will be.

Looks more like Resident Evil baddies than Doom baddies.

I think part fo the story is a bunch of people turning into zombies...it is going to be a mix of zombies and demons i think. Zombies will probably be the easy guys at the beginning then you work your way to the demons from hell (literally...i think you visit Hell in Doom3).

Ok, looks great, BUT what kind of hardware is this REALLY going to need? Not the over optimistic estimates on game boxes?

NV30/Radeon 9700

GF4 Ti and R8500 will be "decent" but not great.

Just IMO of course.

Go back to playing your Gamecube. I hear that's nice and cheery colors. :) God forbid a game about satanic demons and death isn't fruity colors :p

Don't own a console. Not the "type". :)

I'm sorry if I offended the id apologists in this thread but they do have a rep. for poor use of the visible color spectrum!

True, but it's because it fits the game. Do you think UT is colorful in comparison? I don't...to me it's all silver/grey, and it makes sense since it's futuristic. How could Doom3 be taken seriously or seem scary if it was very colorful and not murky and gloomy (which is more realistic BTW).

It's a tough call to judge scariness from a handful of screenshots. Obviously, a level rendered in neon colors will not be scary. All I ask for is adequate use of non-boring browns and greys.

I must remind you Doom 1/2 were a rainbow compared to Quake 1/2 and still managed to keep the fright level quite high. ;)
