Best Sci-Fi Novels that should be made into movies

No, that is not Ender's Game. That was a movie that sort of resembled Ender's Game in the broadest sense.

Fair enough. I haven't seen it precisely because Ender's game is one of my favorite sci fi novels and I don't want to see someone else's interpretation of how the characters look/sound/act.

I wonder if Dan Simmons' Hyperion novels could be made into decent movies? I'm guessing they're a bit complex for that though. Another possibility: Iain Banks' Culture novels... Not sure which one, though.

I would love to see the Culture in films, but I fear it would either be butchered, or never made because most people will be unable to relate to the culture.

Think about it - America is more conservative than most countries, and the Culture is a hedonistic, socialist society with no money, no work, no laws and virtually no concept of ownership. People would accuse it of being socialist propaganda.

Not into a movie, but The Wheel of Time would make a great cable series.

I agree! There are often rumours about a live action wheel of time movie or series. Funnily enough, I think WOT could translate better than most. I mean, look at Game of Thrones.

How would they handle the polygamy though?

+1 for a Hyperion Cantos HBO series, that would be awesome.

Finished reading The Sparrow, would make a great movie. I read that Brad Pitt wanted to and that there are scripts written up and whatnot, but that ratings and subject matter made things tricky.

I'd say they would just leave it as it is, it wouldn't make much sense without Rand's harem and the Aiel culture (sister-wives). They could leave out all the running around in the desert for 3 books, that was lame.

They can also leave the part out where Perrin runs after Faile for like 1000 years. In fact, they can leave out Faile completely.

Roger Zelazny - The Chronicles of Amber series

Philip Jose Farmer - The World Of Tiers series

Piers Anthony - Bio of a Space Tyrant series

I think WOOL would make a great movie or three, although they'd have to streamline a lot and probably cut back on some of the ancillary stories.

I thought about that while reading it, and honestly think it would make a better series (or at least mini series). ~4-6 45 minute episodes per book depending.

Naked God trilogy.

But it would need a long ass miniseries to do it justice, like 6 two-hour episodes for each book.
If you compress it you mostly lose the point behind its greatness.

Bring back Legend of the Seeker but do it better. Bruce Spence is good for Zeddicus but frankly Nathan Fillion seems like Richard.

He's too old for Richard now. I really liked the show and was pissed when it was cancelled. I think the problem was that for a while it devolved into a baddie-of-the-week instead of sticking closer to the book plots, which they could have milked many seasons out of.
