I'm not claiming that Peart, Lifeson or lee are the best at anything. What I do claim is if you can find a band as complete as those three musicians, I'll be a monkey's uncle.

Oh, they work together very very well as a band, but individually they aren't "the best". Also while I can't think of a band right off the top of my head that synchs as well as Rush, just because I can't think of one (and just because you haven't heard one) doesn't mean that a band like that doesn't exist. I would actually welcome a band like that lol.

So I guess I am not a monkey's uncle yet!hehe. I see your point. You cannot say this guy is better than that guy. Rush has always been an enigma to me. Some albums to me kicked a$$, while others didn't. I prefer their Moving Pictures and older material to their newer stuff. What I have always liked about Rush is their musicianship, attention to detail, professionalism, modesty and their uniqueness. They are different than any other "rock" band in existence. They never copied anyone and always did what they wanted, even if it alienated some fans. They have always marched to their own drum.

These days when it is all about money, you gotta respect that.

I posted what sticks out the most to me as being corny. Sorry, you don't have to memorize each and every verse and chorus to have an opinion on it. I was going to google it and just post the lyrics of that horrendous song. But you saved me the trouble.

And I don't have the lyrics memorized either. I ripped those from songmeanings.com. I found your choice of that song in particular somewhat amusingly ironic.

I'll admit that Geddy's voice isn't the best and took many years and albums to develop. But there is one period among their later works when the all that vocal training had obviously paid off, and his voice was acutally very good. Kind of from Moving Pictures to Counterparts IMO.

Yes music is COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE. Please explain to me why XYZ is better than ABC besides some relatively abstract rating of "technically better". That's not a concrete answer is it? Who's the best sculptor then? Who's the best painter? Who's the best chef? Who's the best lover (well me I know but I digress...). I'm not trying to take anything away from Rush or any other band. I completely enjoy Rush and their musical talents. Is it music I "like"? No... not really. But to say they are the "best" is impossible with being subjective as art is NOT a math equation.

Started that way. No students there anymore... I'm likely the youngest DJ (in 30s) at this point. Pretty hard to explain the radio station itself. It's a small. non-commercial radio station that is owned by a college. So by definition, yes "college radio" but its not your typical "college radio" station. Much more progressive, forward thinking etc. yet has very large jazz, blues, foreign etc ensemble too. Highly renown throughout the US as one of the frontier station out there.

Technical Proficiency doesn't equate to good music, nor does simplicity equal bad music. Often it's the reverse.

Claiming to know who the best drummer in the world is, is hubris. It's your opinion, and another persons opinion is just as valid. Accept this fact and your blood pressure will thank you. "I think Rush suxxors" is way more valid than "Neal Peart is the best drummer in the world." The first is an opinion, and the second is a clueless misrepresentation of a fact that couldn't possibly ever be established or agreed upon. It's pointless, just like claiming pumpkin is the best pie.

I remember back in highschool, a friend came back from an AC/DC concert and said that he was amazed, "Angus played Eddy Van Halen's Eruption with one hand!" Big deal, eruption wasn't a big deal because it was hard, it was a big deal because nobody ever played a guitar like that before. Did Angus invent that style with one hand? Didn't think so. Technical prowess in music is meaningless. It's being able to come up with something that sounds good, and resonates in peoples' heads that counts.

So it considers itself "Much more progressive, forward thinking etc." and has a wide variety of music like Jazz, Blues, and Foreign that is currently in favor with the pseudo-intellectuals of this country.

Sounds like ever college radio station I've ever listened to. Even the schedule on the station's page reads like the schedule of every student-run college station I've encountered.

Not saying it's not a good station, but it sure looks to have no significant difference from any other ecclectic and self-aggrandizing college station.
