Exactly... there's no subjective-ism in there at all.
I'm sure I have no idea what I'm talking about. I only own some 10,000 albums, most of which is rock. I'm sure it was pure subjectivism that caused me to go out and buy Rush's
complete discography, and not my deep appreciation for good rock musicianship. I'm also sure that if you were to ask the rock lovers here what the greatest concert they've ever seen was, the answer surely wouldn't be Rush by an overwhelming margin, or that the reason given for that wouldn't be their outstanding musicianship in concert.
😉
assuming you actually do own ~10,000 albums, that (to me) only means that you're a compulsive collector, not that you have a "deep appreciation for good rock musicianship." i'd think a "deep appreciator" would pick out the cream-of-the-crop and studiously listen to those albums/bands.
there's a lot more to good music than technical proficiency... and even if that's the most important matter to you, there's maaany better musicians than those in rush (albiet the rush dudes are quite talented). you might not like their asthetic, but i could name a handful of better (more proficient) players than neal and geddy of the top of my head.
