I would say the best restaurant that I have ever been too is either Bob Chinns or Giacomos.
Bob Chinn's is on Milwaukee Road in Wheeling Illinois.
That's probably why I make it a point to go there at least two or three times per year, even though it costs upwards of $100 for dinner for two (assuming you get a pitcher of mai tais, and don't eat the cheapest thing on the menu)
They fly fresh seafood in daily.
They have the biggest king crab legs I have ever seen (Were talkin like, 2 or 3 legs for a 20oz dish. The Kona Crab is to die for. Their Snow Crab legs are bigger then most places King crab legs. The Dungeoness crab is delicious. They have awesome gumbo as well as chowder. Their desserts are among the best I've ever had. The service is spectacular (though on busy days, you will wait over an hour to be seated, they do not take reservations, and they are one of the biggest restaurants in the country.) The atmosphere is relaxed, slightly dimmly lit, but not dark. I truly like everything about the place.
Giacomos is a little tiny Italian restaurant in Mount Prospect, IL. The quality of service there is the best I've ever seen. It's one of the few places that I would consider to have better service then Bob Chinns. The dining room only has about 15 tables or so, (though they are getting an addition as the place is ALWAYS packed.) And let me tell you about the food, ohhh is it good. Usually, Italian food is not my favorite, I really love Indian cuisine, Thai Food, Japaneese Food, Chineese Food, Anything with Crab, KC Style BBQ, and many other different food from various cultures. The food is so delicious, it completely stands out and above the rest. It is in no way shape or form boring or uninteresting. Each bite causes me to question my atheist beliefs, as the food is much too good to have been prepared by lowly mortals.
I took my grandparents and my mother their for my grandparents anniversery earlier this year, and they usually only eat half of their food or less at restaurants. At this place, they eat their entire portions. The portions there are pretty large (I am a big guy, about 280 pounds and 6 feet 2 inches, and a dinner there fills me up pretty good.)
For Lunch, which includes a decent sized portion, as well as Soup OR Salad, 4 people can eat for under $70 (including tax, as well as a generous tip.
For Dinner, which includes bigger portions, as well as Soup, salad, and desert, a party of 4 can feast on the deliciois morsels of food for < $90. It's not a "cheap" restaurant per say, however, the food, service, and atmosphere are top notch, and the prices are very reasonable.
