I've been looking to pick up a nice casual soft leather jacket, and as I look around online I see a wide range of options, and am seeking ATOT's experience and expertice.

I looking for something in real leather, no faux stuff.

I see a wide range of prices from <$100 for the cheaper stuff to like Columbia brand from Kohls for $150-200, to Jos A Bank stuff from $300-400 but currently on 2 for 1 sale. Then you get into the $400 and up stuff on the higher end. Is there really that big a difference in quality? or is it a name brad thing?

Help me ATOT, I,m a leather noob

Wow...the places that I used to use apparently have gone under. :(

I've looked at these, but have never bought from them:

http://www.legendaryusa.com/fashion-and-streetwear-clothing-s/52.htm

http://www.overland.com/Products/Mens-Coats-480/Mens-Leather-Jackets--Coats-8300/Browse.aspx

And of course, Wilson's folded a couple of years ago.

IMO, no, it's not just a brand-name thing. You DO get better quality leather when you pay a bit more. Of course, when you get to a certain level of quality, brand name does play into the price, but quality just costs more. Better grades of leather, better tanning, better construction and stitching, better lining, etc.

You're in Texas, you might check to see if you can find AlamoLeathers. Their site is down...which is too bad. They were a great supplier of leather coats, jackets, and other leather goods. IIRC, they were in San Antonio. (thus the name)
They used to be at 16101 COLLEGE OAK, SAN ANTONIO, TX 78249-4011

I just picked up a $600 leather jacket for $150 at an outlet mall. They have great deals in my area( Seattle WA) I will see if they have an outlet mall online or google Seattle Premium Outlets or something to that effect.

I bought a nice one last year from Macys. Boston Harbour, I believe its there own brand. It was $150 on sale. Have seen the same one at Burlington for even less. Have gotten compliments on it also, its very soft leather.

What style? Biker? Sportbiker? Normal street coat?

Perhaps not what you're looking for but: Vanson Leathers are 100% made in the USA, and among the best you can get. And yes, they do make some 'normal' street styles, as opposed to purpose designed motorcycle gear.

Do you have a Burlington Coat Factory near where you live? My wife picked up a really nice Calvin Klein leather coat for me there for like $160, marked down from $600

This place is pretty good...

http://www.sheplers.com/mens/leather/

and apparently they have a location in the DFW area..

2500 Centennial Dr.
Arlington, TX 76011

Didn't even think of that place, I drive by it everyday on the way to work, knew they had western style jackets but looking at their website you linked I see they do have a few normal casual style street coats, I will definately stop by there and check it out
