Probably in Vietnam. There is a place here that has good pho, but I forget its name. It's something lame like #1 pho or something. Delicious though. Served with a big plate of limes, basil, some other herb, and mung bean sprouts, and hot peppers.

Well, now I know where I'm going this weekend.

meh, I had a friend tell me the pho in vietnam is very small compared to over here. She said when she saw the size of the bowls here, that she thought they were bowls used for bathing.

Pho over here is much better. Better ingredients and meat. Portion sizes over there are much smaller. What we have for one person here feeds an entire family over there.

This doesnt take portion size at all into account and purely goes by overall taste, but the best pho i've had is Huong Lan in Honolulu, HI.
The other place in Hawaii which is supposed to have good pho is To Chau, but there is always a line there and my relatives who went said the line was basically because it was cheaper and not necessarily a difference in taste. I'l never know b/c I could never handle the line.
My In-laws are Vietnamese and I am not so I trust their taste buds when they tell me one is better than the other, but my taste buds do tell me that Huong Lan is better than any other bowl of pho i've had in the US so far.

I've only had fast food pho in Saigon at pho 24, but I wasnt overly impressed with it being any better than what we have in the States. I'm told that the real place to get some pho is further in the north where people look at you funny if you dont add in the plate full of fresh veggie garnishings.

As a basis of comparison, I've had Pho in the 7corners area of Eden Center in NoVA, South Philly, Oakland, and (as previously mentioned) honolulu and Saigon.

I'm curious to see these other places that people recommend.

Which location of Pho 24 that you ate in Saigon? I ate at least 6 different locations and some of them were decent and some of them were "meh". P24 is too "westernized" and lean toward the foreign visitors IMO.

If you want good Pho in Saigon, try Pho Hoa @ Pasteur Street, District 3. The shop is not as nice looking as P24 but the food is much better and more authentic.
