I got an email that the Chaintech VNF4 Ultra was in stock today at 3:30. I only checked my email about a half hour ago and it was already out of stock....

links on that site can actually take you to more detailed descriptions of each of hte three boards. Two labeled as NF4 sli boards and one the LanPartyUT NF-4 Ultra is what i was speakind directly about.

The more I look at these DFI board, the better they look.
Whats the difference between the two DFI boards? The extra raid capabilities?

That board doesn't have full Hyper Transport speed (x5) which tears a few points from memory controller performance.

Make sure you get a Nforce4 Ultra, not a Nforce 4x

inter,
nice xls. i was researching a very sim setup but using intel platforms. either the asus mobo with i925XE chipset (seems pricey) or the older i875 chipset (older platform). i'm not big into gaming atm and need to run sql svr and dotnet stuff for work so i thought i'd give intel a go since the last couple computers i built were amd.

i havent priced out or researched an amd solution yet, so i'll pinch your xls as a base.

fyi, the wd 75gb raptor is currently $155 at newegg ($25 refund).

its just as overclockable as any of the other boards, acually ive heard from people with this board that it overclocks very well. so, i still recommend this board.

Thanks, my situation is similarly opposite. Ive built 5 or 6 computers, all intel driven. So now I want to take a hack at this AMD thing... I dont really game, If a good game comes around I play it for a few weeks and then drop it, I prefer X-BOX or PS2 over a computer setup.

I saw the newegg raptor thread on here, just havent updated my XLS because I dont want to order the rest of the components without the MB.

I read lots of reviews of other nforce 4 boards, and they always get around 5900 mb/s, with the sames specs as mine (athlon 64 3500, 2 corsair sticks, in dual channel), does anybody have any suggestions on why this is so low?

The reason is they are using revision A01 or A02 of the Nforce 4 chipset which is unstable at HT 5x, These revisions are destined for the cheap/crippled motherboards. The only boards you should be considering are the Ultra's and SLI boards and make sure it is A03 which is stable at HT 5x

I wouldn't touch the GA-K8NF-9 4x with a barge pole.

there actually arent two boards being launched though that is all the announcement talks about because one is more a derivative of teh other than a whole new board. they have the lanpartyUT nf4-sli, the lanparty nf4-sli and the lanpartyUT nf4 ultra. there is a difference. the non ut nf4 sli will have four extra SATA slots powered bya separate controller as well as some other more minute differences but that is the main. they are expecting a FULL, as in retail B&M, mass(as mass as it gets) distribution by march, they should be popping up in onlie retailers nationwide near the end of january. my rule of thumb on this is when the AT review comes out they will be available. not to offend either party by that statement that is just how it seems to be working out with mobos for the last year or so. Hell, with the DFI nf2 i had one before the AT articel came out..

Hi

I am planning to ammamble my AMD64 bit machine.
i am considering the below FOUR MOBO with 939 socket.

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/...mbd_detail.php?UID=638

http://www.giga-byte.com/Mothe...ducts_GA-K8NXP-SLI.htm

http://www.asus.com/products/m.../a8nsli-d/overview.htm

http://www.abit-usa.com/produc...gories=1&model=215

all the boards looks good,
All the way i am using only laptops, this is the first time i am assambling the desktop.
i am not sure with which MOBO to go with.

i had below questions

1) is it good to go with MOBO with on board features, or just go with basic board.
2) which boards are stable.
3) MSI board says it is SATAII but it says speeds can go up to 300MB/s, while all the other vendors says SATAII can go up to 3GB/s
I am confused, please can any one elobrate on this
4) I feel i am leaning more towards MSI, but i am not sure about its stability, is my choice a good one.

Basically i play with linux, very less with windows

So far, and despite a low end NF4 version it seems to go better for OC than ASUS SLI which prolly means ASUS has still a long way to go. If it's only a BIOS problem btw......
Wondering if ASUS' good reputation for high quality stuff isn't crumbling a bit on this one from being too eager to be the first.

One important thing to remember about the Gigabyte board that everyone is worried about being 4x HTT instead of 5x -

If you overclock, most everyone has to lover their HTT to 4x anyhow, and suffer minute if any losses therein.

Mines on it's way, hopefully some good results will be posted shortly.

You are correct that to get a good FSB overclock you would need to lower the HTT to 4x however with a A01 and A02 they are unstable at 5x or say 1000MHz, most of us will be trying for HTT of 4x with a FSB of 250MHz giving us 1000MHz again, what the CPU is rated for.

If you buy the A01 and A02 don't expect to get the chipset to work at a 1000MHz you'll be lowereing your HTT to 3x and heading for 266MHz which will give you your 800MHz HTT that will be about the best you could hope for with the 4x boards.
