JoeDaddy:

I would suggest you look at both the BA4800's or the Klipsch Promedia's, they really are the top performers right now. One thing is to make sure you listen to them if possible before you buy them. The same speakers will sound different to everyones ears, make sure the speakers you spend your money on please your ears, and not everyone else's. 🙂

Noriaki, I've updated my recent post just now, to highlight that I'm talking about th 2.1. I haven't heard any other Klipschs, and you're better aware of their shortcomings.

The Bass knob on the PM 2.1's is for a good reason: when you're at lower volume, the ear de-emphasizes the treble and especially the bass. So at low volumes, the bass may be turned up to compensate for this. At higher volumes, the bass is levelled off correspondingly.

Get some headphones instead. The sound quality is soo much better. My Videologic computer speakers have been gathering dust ever since I got my Grado SR-325 headphones, I can't stand them anymore.

Well, my friend has the Klipschs and he was trying to talk me into buying them or the ba4800s. So, yesterday we were at Compusa and he persuaded me into the ba4800s. Boy did he regret doing that since the ba4800s sound soooo much better. They are much more clear, and although the bass is not as powerful, it never distorts unlike my friend's kilpschs.

Ok guys thanks for input, let keep it coming. I can stretch my budget to $250 if need be or I can wait another pay period and double that. But I really don't want to spend $250 on a set of speaker unless they are goo. As far as trying to reproduce a home theater, thats now what I'm looking for. I have my set top dvd player and my home theater system to do that. In my mid size computer room there is my computer, the computer that my fiance just built, a tv and a couch. I had got her a Dxr3 and a dvd drive to install into her computer and I also got her a tv tuner card. With the intention of being able to watch dvd's in this room. And i'm sure that you all are wondering why I would want to watch movies on a Dxr3 and small 27". Its because I would like to keep my "recreational" activites secluded to a small area of the house in case someone unexpected drops by, like mine or her parents.

The speakers that I buy will be hooked up to her computer for dvd and mp3 playback. She won't be doing much gaming, just stuff like the Sims and other stuff, no FPS or anything. As for me I'll just stick w/ my ACS340's.

Any more review sites out there?

My point is and was that when you're dealing with sound reproduction via computers and computer speakers they're still toys. I have a $25,000 Plus home rig which is EXTREMELY accurate and in no way compares to my computing rig. Of course I have no tone controls on the stereo so my computer is my toy for sound reproduction and the Klipsch fit the bill nicely. I'd NEVER consider any horn speaker for my big rig but to mess around with MP3s and DVD the Klipsch are exceptional. I do however have the upgraded preamp.

Yamaha came out with the TSS-1, a 5.1 setup that does DD5.1 and DTS. I've seen it at Egghead for under $175 shipped. Haven't found any reviews on it, though

Hmm yes then again we aren't on even ground...I should really make an effort to hear a set of the Klipsch 4.1s or whatever you want to call the set with the new preamps...

There is a difference.

I wouldnt forget the Videologic DighTheatre for 5.1, or Videologic Sirroco CrossFire 4.1 for gaming.

<< Videologic Sirroco CrossFire 4.1 >>

I don't think there is any question that they rock both the BA4800 and Klipsch...but he did say $200....do you know where to get the XFires for 200?? I'd love to hear it 🙂

So would I!

BTW, those Yamaha TSS1B/W speakers are a great find! If they sell for around $300, we'd finally have "affordable" DTS surround-sound on the desktop.

Do you think by:

<< Inputs: 2 Digital inputs ( 1 optical, 1 coaxial); 2 analog inputs >>

(on the TSS1 spec sheet) it means 2 mini-stereo input, IE 4 channel gaming...or just stereo? I'm looking for a speaker set with 4 or 5.1 channel input for gaming and Dobly Digital Decoding (via SPDIF in)....(DTS would be a nice plus to!) So far the Creative DTT3500s...medium, but a very high price....the BA7500...which would be very tempting if it used the same satelites as the BA4800 but it doesn't....and I'm not sure about flat panel spekaers....and the Altec ADA885...but I've been having trouble locating a dealing...(as they are a Dell-Only product.)

Its a shame you are on a budget! If not then I could recommend you on a VERY powerful system which you would not even dare turn up to halfway. The power is emence... But since you are on a budget I suggest the Creative ones, cause the mid and high range sounds are clear, but for bassy music none of these computer speakers are any good becuase they are all Vented, to produce bass, and this will not give a tight and sweet bassline. But for games it will be sufficient.

Hope this helped,

Albert.

Nori,

I had never heard of that Yamaha system before today. It looks promising, but I bet it will be a while before we see any reviews.

Yeah probably. I've never heard of it either. But Yamaha makes good stuff...so one can hope...

*sighs* If only Boston made the BA4800 with a built in DD decoder like the BA7500, but without those silly flat panel speakers...that would be perfect for me....I move around alot, and I'm in the phase of my life where I tend to live in one room, so a real hometheater set would be no good...(not to mention I couldn't afford it 😉) Why are computer speakers equipped for Gaming and DVD so damn hard to find? 🙁:fronw;:|

That's the problem with goddamn computers, you can't put in really highend speakers because you have to sit right in front of your comp. ALso trying to hide all that wiring can be messy too. That's why i prefer to use headphones. Get some highquality headphones (NOT SONY for petesakes), like Grado and a headphone amp and you will be rewarded with much better sound and better 3d interaction in games.

The videologic set is going to cost you over $500, he's already stated he MIGHT stretch his budget to $250, not $500+. I send another recommendation in for Bostons as they will offer you the best sound quality for the money, hands down. I've been dealing with Boston speakers for years and they are exceptional in every way.

Another vote for the BostonAcoustics. Get the digital MediaTheatre with sub and surround. Best computer speakers I've yet to hear. This from somewhat of an audiofile.

You know... It always happens.

Somebody asks for advice for a product in a certain price range. Inevitably, some schmuck will offer up a brilliant suggestion well above the previously mentioned price range. Oh so helpful.

HEY! At Compusa right now, they have the BA4800s for 150!!! I bought myself a set yesterday!!! GO GO GO!!! They might not restock them because they took them off display. I bought the last set from Compusa over here.
