Zucchini....I agree with you about the sb card. My point was that you can get a sb and a ba4800 for roughly the same as what it'd cost for the Klipsch alone.

zsir, I did the same thing. Except that I borrowed a CD player from the Hi-Fi shop that I was getting the speakers from. 😉

I was all set to purchase the Klipsch. But divinemartyr suggested I listen to the BA-4800's first. Even still, I walked into the store, expecting to buy the Klipsch. After listening to both, I came up with the very same conclusions you did.

The Klipsch were louder, the bass overpowering and muddy, and a very much lacking mid-range. I then listened to the BA's, and man was I ever impressed. Very accurate "warm" mid-range. Crisp low and high range. Very nice. I left the store with the BA's and a few extra bucks in my pocket. 🙂

Okay I finally picked up a set of 4.1's!!! This mail order place happened to operate local and I just went and picked it up for 301.32 after taxes 🙂. My observations (keep in mind that my reference system at home uses a pair of Thiel CS2 and a couple of other high end components I'm waay to lazy to list):

1. Bass can get a little muddy at times. Tried many different areas to no avail.
2. The midrange is indeed improved. A coworkers owns the older Klipsch promedias and their's a noticeable improvement.

Overall the system seems catered more to a game playing/computer crowd and NOT the audiophile group. For WHAT IT'S WORTH this is a good buy. Basically anyone who says these speakers can replace a real HT setup has probably only walked into Best Buy/Circuit City/Good Guys for an audio experience (in other words, anyone who actually thinks Klipsch is High End equipment...here's a hint they're not, except maybe for there old La scalas which are their only REALLY decent speakers).

Oh for the guy who used the KLH speakers, good God man, don't admit to something like that.

eyez,

yea, i'm just saying that little extra is worth it, once you get spoiled, you can't go for anything lower🙂 Store listening stations really suck though, i don't know of one store that sets up computer speakers correctly in a soundroom haha, its an absurd idea almost. They just set the things up on a shelf with the sub right beside the sats and stuff.. and expect u to compare that way😛 Its laughable.

Here is my input on the subject, KevinH is very right. And the reason why most people say the Klipschs are better is that they all own them and are protecting their investment . Yep, investment, they are so damn expensive that they are now an investment. You could buy two sets of ba4800s for the same price as one set of Klipschs. Come on people. I have actually contemplated such a thing with an 8.2 sound system comprised of 2 sets of ba4800s. The supposed "weak" bass problem would be fixed with two subs and the drivers would be able to fill up a larger room.

hehe protecting investment? What are you a kid? I'm sure some ppl still are on allowances, but 250-300 for speakers isn't all that insane. I orignally bought the microsoundworks for 350, and the next most expensive would be the dtt2500's.. if it sucks , i dump it.

as for 4.2 systems, you might increase your bass, but you won't deepen it by any amount. the klipsch 2.1's are only a little more then the ba's at that.

umm i'm not saying klipsch's are good to "protect my investment," i'm saying they're good because i personally really like them. of course there are shortcomings, but i still like them very much. i sold them to get the new 4.1's....i could've just bought the bostons instead, but i like the klipsch's. i've heard the boston's but they just don't tickles my pickle 😉 it's a matter of taste for me.

Sorry, even with a job, I still consider 300 bucks a large hunk of cash. I am just saying that wouldnt you rather have something better for less?

Actually, I think for 300 dollars, the speakers are dandy. It goes along the line of "if you have to ask how much you can't afford it"...to each his own I suppose. I just meant that a lot of comparisons speak of these speakers as if they kick all sorts of ass. They don't. But for 300 bucks and considering the limitations of the computer environment, they're a great buy. The argument that you can get "close to the same quality" for a lot less is a moot point. With every sort of product you get diminishing returns the more you spend. CPUs, video cards, cars, etc. I feel that at 300 bucks, if you're in the market and you can afford them, then knock yourself out.

Hi,

I am not sure if anyone knows this, but here goes. I have a SB Live! 5.1 and I want to get some speakers. I know I know, the BA4800's are so great but I am interested in a true DTS/Dolby/5.1/etc solution. Specifically the Yamaha TSS1's. My question is based on something I saw on www.3dss.com which said something to the likes of "the digital out on the sb live! will only work with creative speakers". So if I get a good speaker system, will I be able to utilize all the fancy features? I don't want to buy speakers and end up not being able to use it besides for analog. And if that is the case, I'll just get BA4800's.

Thanks!

My ba4800 finally arrived from ems. I'm listenining on my old system using the 810 chipset....wow! much better than I ever thought possible on a computer system. No overwelming highs, no overwhelming lows...just nicely balanced sound. Dianna Krall, and most jazz music extremely detailed. Can't wait to finish my new system and try it out on my acoustic edge 🙂

As much as you hate to admit it, no one will admit they bought a sh!tty product if it's at least half way decent. Like everyone who buys an SB Live! card. They all say it's the best one (at least most) and they haven't even used the other cards! Why do they say this? Again, it's a matter of you spending your money and not wanting to face the reality there is something better out there. We're all guilty of it as humans.

i sold the v2.400 and bought the 4.1's. my only complaint with the v2-400 where the lack for mid range, which are apparently fixed with the 4.1's (they're coming in tomorrow). other than that, i liked the promedias very much. and that's why i bought the 4.1's.

i'm not the type of person that stands behind a product just because i bought it. if i got something sh!tty, i'll be the first to admit it and tell others that it is. like my sblive mp3+, i know it's crappyt. that's why i'm looking towards getting an audiophile 2496.

also, i have no reason to back up my "investment" because i didn't even buy the speakers. i got them for free through that freeride magazine trial deal on hot deals forum a while back 😀 😀
