Best OTC sleepaid?

Google fails me.

Tylenol PM is arguably the most worthless POS I have ever taken in my life. It doesn't even reduce any pain I might have. It's pathetic.

I swear I must be immune to the effects of most OTC pain reducers. The only thing that ever knocked me out almost consistently was taking benadryll when I was a kid for my allergies. That sucked. I hated that.

Treadmill - found just about anywhere

100+ push ups = free

300+ crunchs = free

1 hour to stay in shape - priceless and found everywhere

Tylanol PM has the same active ingrediant as benadryl...not sure why it knocked you out before but not now...

Tried melatonin?

Unfortunately for me, benadryl makes me feel really uneasy and I can't sleep worth a damn- always tossing and turning and feeling just really shitty. Melatonin helps- wine helps more.

Diphenhydramine. Hands down. If you are immune to these effects than seek a doctor for some sedatives.

I prefer doxylamine. It seems to help me stay asleep better, but doesn't seem to get me there.

But both are antihistamines, and both tend to make me feel more muddled than tired.

OP, I have problems 'turning my mind off'. In my experiences anti-histamines don't help with that. Things like valerian root, l-theanine, kava are all much better and slowing down my racing thoughts and allowing me to fall asleep. You can find those, and other ingredients like them, in some of the herbal/non-drug sleep aids.

Sleep hygiene. melatonin.

I'm not sure how much of an actual effect melatonin has been shown to have beyond placebo, but I definitely second the vote for improved sleep hygiene. It's pretty amazing how horrible most people's sleep habits can become over time, which leads to some fairly severe insomnia.

Lazy Cakes
I just heard about these yesterday on NPR. The girl who tried it said she slept for like 10 hours.

She didn't get high from the Lazy Cake, but she was shocked at how sleepy it made her.
"I really did go to bed for about, I think 10 to 12 hours after I ate that first Lazy Cake, so well, maybe I should have started with half,"

I had nortriptylene (Pamelor) prescribed as a painkiller. It's a tricyclic antidepressant. It knocked me out so much that I slept for 18 hours a day and during the few hours I was awake I was so groggy I couldn't function. If you ever want to go completely blotto I recommend it.

As for OTC, I happen to find a nice warm cup of coffee with a little milk, and a couple of cookies, to be very relaxing and sleep-inducing.

what about those 'calming down' drinks like the opposite of energy drinks?

Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time tastes good. The "effective" ingredient is chamomile. I don't know if it works or not. I don't have issues sleeping, but at least it tastes good.
