Maybe you should stop thinking......

I have seen the specs on the 8890 and they are far from impressive for almost $2100...the 8890-V is a little better though...it is almost $2500 and comes with the fantastic XP Home Edition...how stupid...
They are more expensive than they should be because they come with a lot of crap I for one do not need...but for some reason they leave out a decent OS...whatever...

If I had it my way, all laptops would come with Windows 98.
Obviously they don't. Some people like XP, some people dont. We can't all have what we want.

Guys, remember that HT link is a new term, the manufacturers don't know hot relate it to the old FSB..... so they choose the best marketing ploy: system bus at 1600 MHz. Keep in mind that the HT speed is totally independent of the memory used.... they are 2 different paths to exchange data.

I vote also for my baby, the M6805. Regarding the 64 MB vs 128, we are losing perspective: The 9600 lacks the firepower to use the 128 MB (high resolution / AF and AA)

This might just be nit picky but the Mobile ATI 9700 is equivilant to a 9600 Pro. Not equivilant to the 9600XT.

--Edit--

Upon looking at it closer the 9700 is the same "degree" below a 9600XT as it is above the 9600 Pro. It's pretty much right in the middle.

I agree though it would be sweet to have that type of power in a laptop though

Powernotebooks has been into question with me for quite some time....but this isnt a debate on the status of other companies, i own a company that resells laptops, I should be recieving in the next few days the same laptop that powernotebooks has the M5-6. 1.7 Dothan(2MB cache) 9700 128MB, 60GB 7200RPM hard drive, and a gig of ram, all in 6.5 lbs, just over an inch thick. It is such a sweet machine i cant wait to get it and play around on it!

In respect of Anandtech...and not wanting to get flamed i wont post a link to my website.

we sell the sagers too, they are good, but if mobility is an issue the 8890 is NOT for you. This sucker is HUGE, and when i say huge, i mean HUGE. It really is a desktop replacement, it weighs nearly 13 lbs, sure thats not much for a short time but its not exactly something you can carry on your lap, throw under your shoulder to go run to another part of the house or something. The sagers also put off a considerable amount of heat, as they should running P4C's in a SFF.

If you have any questions about the M5-6 I'll be happy to answer them. Or if your in the Northern VA area i'd be happy to meet with you and show you the laptop too.

Go for a Hypersonic PC, as I just have bought a CX5 with Reflexxion paint <g> (yay Car paint and buff buff buff).

Thats the same as the M5-6 I know the guy who does the painting for them, and for me, great guy, just a tad pricey. How do you like the laptop itself?

How's the battery life on the eMachine and Asus M5-6?
If these things can get 4+ hours battery life I wouldn't mind the extra weight.

the asus is just 5.6 lbs according to the link above

You're not gonna get 4+ hours of battery life on the emachines. Maybe some ppl can but mine does around 2:30-2:45 tops (with all the settings low). I dunno about the M5-6 but I'm betting it'll def. be higher than the 6805. I'm willing to be that the 6805 is a damn decent bit cheaper tho. Hey, if you got the money to burn... go with the better choice. However I do love this lappie. It's sleek as hell and it's got an A64!!

From all the benchmarks, it trails the 9600pro in every game so how is it below 9600xt and above 9600pro

IBM T41p - check it out.

I'm from Singapore, we don't have much of the latest notebook range here. I'm also looking for one with good graphics for gaming. So far I have found Acer Travelmate 8003LCi to be quite good among the choices here.

It's quite lightweight, around 6.5 lbs, and 5hrs battery life, 512RAM, Pentium M 1.6Ghz, Centrino, and it sports a 128MB ATI MObility Radeon 9700 card!

I'm torn between this model and the Acer Aspire 1711SCF model which has P4 2.8 Ghz, 512RAM, and 64 MB GeForce FX Go5200. Heard bad reviews about the 5200, so not sure.. and also not sure if 64MB video ram would be enough. This model is much cheaper and has a beautiful and huge 17" screen. The damn thing is real heavy tho (16 lbs??), more a desktop replacement than notebook.

Well.. anyone has anything to say about this?

Errr.... sorry but the Aspire is crap if it has those specs. If you want a gaming machine the Go5200 IS NOT the vid card to have. The Radeon 9700 should easily beat it down. By "beat it down" i mean in just about any recent game (past 1-2 years) you'll basically see an insane difference in performance between the 5200 and 9700. If you want to see actual number i'll refer you to http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=3&var1=74&var2=0 . Basically, the gist of the article is you're better off going with a radeon 9000 rather than a Go5200. If you consider yourself a serious gamer, then go with the 9700 hands down.

2000 - all under 7 lbs.

iBuyPower.com Battalion CL-Series
This thing is the equivalent of a VoodooPC M:360 which means 4+ hours of battery life for under 6.5lbs, 9700 128MB, free carry case, free wi-fi card, but OS costs extra.
You can configure it with some pretty nice specs for ~$1500 after the 5% off coupon which is listed somewhere on the site.
However, iBuyPower.com site people say isn't the best site.

Interesting, this appears to be the same company as CybrerPowerSystem.com.

Sager np 3790
It's what I just bought 🙂

Sager 3790-S
Display: 15.4" WSXGA + LCD (1680 x 1050)
Processor: Pentium M ( 755 ) 2.0 GHz
RAM: 1024MB 333DDR RAM (2x512)
Video: 128MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700
Hard Drive: 60GB 7200RPM
Media Drive: 8X DVD/24X10X24 CDRW Combo Drive
Battery: Smart Li-ion battery pack(6 or 12 cells)
Wireless: 802.11-g/b Integrated wireless

These options in a 7ish pound Laptop with 5-6 hours battery life on the 12 cell. I'll have mine in a week and will see how it performs

If you can wait for the mobile 9800 CPU, I would.

It's not based on the desktop 9800; rather it's based on the desktop X800!!!

ABS Computers makes some of them; the zForce F2 has an optional 128MB MR 9700:
zForce F2 specs

You can also check out Acer. They have a huge array of laptop models; if you wanna spend an hour or two wading through them, there are some Dothans in there with the 9700. The only thing is that they tend to be on the big side, and they all have those weird curved keyboards.

I'm like you: I want a 5-pounds-or-less Dothan with a 9700 (or even 9800). If I had to buy a notebook right now, I'd probably have to go with the Thinkpad T42p, though, as the best all-around notebook; it's at least got a 9600 Pro (FireGL is the same card as I understand it) with 128MB available.

My T42P's FireGL is actually clocked lower than the standard 9600. It was able to achieve a decent overclock but when it's setup by factory, it's a little slower than the 9600 on non-'p' models.
