and NOT jarhead..haha

btw, tears of the sun was horribly fake and non-tactical..

def not harhead

I disagree about tears of the sun...why so, any examples? (I am a military freak, and know a lot and i did not find anything to fake or unrealistic)

I'd have to watch again, its been a while. But I know at the end that they are all just standing up out in the open on a line. Thats a great frickin way to get shot. Yes, you can shoot standing, but in a field my ass is dropping down. And then theres teh whole fake as hell claymore rush.

I love Deer Hunter to death but I don't consider it a military movie. Not much takes place in terms of military strategies or anything. You see DeNiro on his own, and then he and his buddies that join up with him get captured and have to escape. Other than that, the movie is more centralized on character development than military action.

It still has some great acting and you can't beat the intensity of the russian roulette scene. I'd rank it as one of the best movies that takes place during a war though. Same with The Great Escape and a few others mentioned. When I hear military movie I think of war being fought, and getting troops from point A to point B without losing anyone.

Just my $0.02

BHD, BOB, SPR, Das Boot, FMJ, Top Gun

Regarding why Tears of the Sun isn't a good military movie is all of the hollywood sh!t thrown in there, especially with the aircraft. A SLAM exploded like a cluster bomb, come on.

And you have Top Gun as a great military movie? Hello pot, meet kettle.

ah a hah a ha
didnt catch that one.
i also liked das boot, though. forgot about that one.

ToTS is not accurate, but some people like it nonetheless. Same as if you play America's Army instead of CS:S.

Also wanted to add:

Behind Enemy Lines

true true I remember the claymore thing

although the line shooting was very accurate, in fact they spent a week just learning that type of team tactics....the seals use that method a lot and many others that may eem suicidal but are actually very lethal (and yes it was done slowly in the movie) are very effective in drawing back...

I'm no expert, but I'll agree with you on the line shooting. From what I understand the idea is to put out an intense, sustained return fire to throw the enemy "off balance" and then haul ass out.

The missile thing exploding like a cluster bomb was pretty funny, and the claymore thing seemed a little off to me. Oh, and the Aimpoint on Bruce Willis' carbine was on backwards. 🙂

I love band of brothers and Pvt. Ryan, Black Hawk Down was great, but I really liked "We Were Soldiers, for some reason that movie came off so damn real............ I don't know........ No hype maybe......
