This is my project. We have a pretty good selection, never run out of stuff like blockbuster and we do both purchase or rental. Come and check us out.

Sorry man, but I gotta post this:

Wow. :Q

I wonder how much of that crap is Amazon, and how much is from the studios...?

I gotta say, that a pet project and the like, I give props to AMeesh and his team or however it works.

That said, it's kind of hard, if not impossible to see how absolutely incredulous the the DRM is on online content. They do't trust even the good guys and they will pay dearly for it with lsot revenue.

Like I said, Unbox has the best video quality, but yeah, the software is FUBAR. It kind of sucks too because there was so much potential here with VC-1 and the like.
While the application UI is probably AMazon's fault, we all know who is behind the DRM.

Frankly, netflix or bust right now.

Yea I've read up on it too. It's an interesting point as to whether it was Amazon who decided to implement the measures, or the content owners that made Amazon implement things this way.

Honestly, you can't really fault someone for trying to provide a service in an already broken industry.

They aren't the original content creators. They have no incentive to do any of this but to cover their own asses.

from what I've seen, you jsut can't beat netflix.

even if you don't watch that much, they just absolutely outclass the competition.

I'm in Canada so I don't really know, but what makes Netflix so much better than the others?

haha, trust me I am aware of our launch press, it been nearly 6 months since then and we have goten a ton of feedback from our customers. I won't lie to you, at launch the product was pretty rough but we very quickly changed. late last month we released version 1.5 of our software which is hugely improved. Downloads are faster, the app is more reliable and uses much fewer resources.

all in all the product that we have today is what i wished we launched with. Everything from the EULA to the sallest details in the app have been changed because of what you guys, our customers, told us what you liked and didnt like.

Don't worry, i'm not pissed, I am interested in seeing our product getting better. I read our customer feedback everyday and I can tell you without any doubts that if enough you want to see something added/changed/fixed we will do our best to try and get it done ASAP.

But I don't see how that addresses any of the privacy-invading issues listed in the articles... any thoughts on that?

Movielink is really great, their CS is outstanding. I've never had a problem with their software as long as my Windows updates are run.

If you're a student they give you 25% off.

And they have a $0.99 special every weekday that students can get for $0.75 or less and store for up to 30 days before watching.

I don't think as many views as you want in 24 hours is a good deal. If I rent a movie at Blockbuster for $4 I can watch it as many times as I want for a whole week.

I've rented a few from Unbox and streamed a few from Netflix. Both work pretty well, but have very limited selections. Even if you don't watch many, the cheapest Netflix plan is only $5/month, and that's 5 hours of on demanding (one $ = one hour), and you still get your 2 DVD's a month if you want them.

I've been wondering what the future is for these services... do you think they're planning to have every movie ever released available for download? Or is it always going to be fairly limited?

oh and Vongo.com has a movie download service. They have a fairly decent selection if you pay the $10/month, but there is a limited selection for PPV.
