Shaved (or very thinly sliced) corned beef, hot, on Pumpernickel with mustard. Sometimes I'll get swiss cheese, sometimes not.

If it's on some kind of artisan bread it's NOT a deli sandwich.
I prefer the split decision - hot corned beef AND pastrami on rye. With cheese. I don't care if it's a special, a reuben, or just mustard.
If you live near Edison, NJ, you should stop by Harold's NY Deli. It's amazing.
I also like Monte Cristo. Especially the deep-fried one at Bennigan's.

A good sandwich is a good sandwich I don't think anyone cares if its considered an "official" deli sandwich or not.

They do when the thread title says "Best kind of deli sandwich ingredients?"
If I want a deli sandwich, I go to a deli. Rye bread or crusty rolls, basic meats, lettuce, tomato, onion, peppers, basic cheeses, mayo, mustard, or olive oil.
If I want raspberry ham with fresh mozzarella, arugala and pesto mayonnaise on asiago ciabatta bread, I go to an arsty (and usually overpriced) sandwich joint.

You have to understand such differentiation is native to the NY/NJ area, and the sandwiches are crappy anyway![]()
