Wait, what? Because it was a ten thousand word story, it's supposed to be funny when the punchline is that?

On top of the humor of making people read the whole thing for a cheezy punchline, it's a pretty good story, joke aside. It's brilliant, and one of the best jokes I've ever read.
 
Ok classic example of the long joke with a simple pun punchline. Just that this version takes it beyond the point of tolerance. I started speed reading it after the first page and still was disappointed with the pun at the end.
