Best Intel Quad Processor right now???

hey guys... I was wondering which Intel Quad Processor is the Fastest leaving the Extreame ones that cost 1000 bucks outside the list ok....
 
The fastest... does this include overclocking potential? I mean, simply the fastest speed 45nm with the highest cache under the 1000 mark would be the answer to your question. Here's a chart of the Intel Quads: http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ProcFam=2774 - looks like the Q9550 but the intellectual shopper would consider the multiplier, Memory speed option, and mobo cause with a good board, and good memory you can achieve what the higher multiplier has to offer for a lower cost.
 
I back the Q9450 on this one, its reasonable and you actually care about where your money goes and dont need to spend excess money for no reasons, and its definitely in your price bracket, bcoz the extremes are such a waste if you ask me! but anyway i back the Q9450, heard some good things bout it too, esp with the 12mb cache and the 45nm technology and the C1 stepping, which is new and i know nothing about, what is so good bout the C1 stepping as opposed to the G0 stepping, because everyone is ranting and raving bout the G0, but why?! what is so different between all the stepping technologies? how does it affect the overall processing?
 
I have both the Q9450 (X3350) and the Q6600. They OC to the same levels, and the Q6600 is much cheaper. I say the Q6600 is the best value.
 
Q6600, the newer 45nm ones dont overclock much higher than the Q6600 g0. instructions/clock also aren't much better.

def not worth the price over it for the performance.

Right now I am using an E6600 , but I found out that my video editing software does in fact utilize all four cores of a quad. So I am now interested in this thread.

For a few dollars more than a Q6600 I can get a Q6700.

Is the Q6700 worth it or is the Q6600 still a better value?

Never really knew that the Q6600 is that great for overclocking, but very interesting though, but is the OC capabilities of it that great to actually overwhelm the Q9450 or the likes of those? Because im sure you will get much more performance out of the Q9450 after OC than the Q6600, but i see your point on the price/performance

If you're an overclocker, the Q6700 is a horrible value, because they don't overclock any higher than the Q6600's. If you aren't an overclocker, it's a good value, since it's more than 10% faster than the Q6600. Don't forget, though, that all of the 45nm's have SSE 4.1, which can give a fairly serious boost to video editing/conversion, depending on which software you use.

I need absolute stability for video editing so I am always reluctant to overclock. Sometimes a rendering can take 13 or more hours depending upon it's complexity.

The Intel DX975XBX2 (Bad Axe 2) motherboard (now unfortunately discontinued and all but gone) has been rock solid, but after doing a Google search, it doesn't appear that a 45nm CPU will work on that motherboard. I read one article that described how Intel used a modded D975XBX2 to demonstrate the 45nm CPUs when they introduced them, but they probably modified the voltage regulator in order to do that (I think).

If you found something I missed on the net regarding using the 45nm CPUs on that board, I would really appreciate it if you would tell me where it is.

By the way, you were one of the people who recommended that fine motherboard to me when I was asking in a post over a year ago. Thank you so much for the recommendation. The motherboard is truly remarkable and perfect for my application.
