if anyone could, I woudl really love a link to the site to read up on them. Also, It would be great if it were freeware. i cant pay for shareware! :D

Do you want just a text editor, or a WYSIWYG editor?

Notetab is a good editor and the basic version is freeware.

1st page
1!st page

it sounds like "front page" but it's a very cool very high end editor. it has 4 different diffactul levels for those who are knowledage to those who aren't. you have have the program write the code for you, or you can write it yourself. it supposed everything.

very powerful and I'd recommend it to everyone.

hell I liked it so much I actully BOUGHT It. and it's free!!!

Anyone who says Notepad is a great editor for *any* language is kidding themselves.

Would you let a car mechanic that used primitive tools work on your car? I think not. Any good developer requires good tools, and usually has many of them.

Personally, I use UltraEdit whenever I can. I've used countless others, but I always go back to UltraEdit.

Notepad in Win.
Xedit in Linux.
I suppose, though I never have tried, you could use edit in DOS, but what would be the point?
To Mac I go not.

Descartes: Comparing HTML writing to car mechanics is not really good. Mechanics need a number of tools because of physical limitations, if they could I'm sure they'd be happy to work on an engine that allowed them to work on everything with one wrench. HTML allows for this, pages written in Notepad are no different from pages written in other editors, provided the author writes it properly.

I don't know about you, but I absolutely despise Notepad for anything beyond viewing and editing .txt files.

Coding HTML, C/C++, Perl, Java, PHP is possible in any editor, no matter how primitive, but without syntax-highlighting you'll soon find yourself going nuts while trying to discover a tiny error in your code.

BTW at school I installed ConTEXT to replace Notepad. It's nearly comparable with EditPlus, but it's free. Search for it at Download.com.
