Ok, so i've finally got up enough courage to get the ball rolling. I'm going to be doing things very slow here but the first thing I want to do is install the CPU block. Incase you forgot, I have the EK supreme. I've googled EK Supreme installation and came up with a pictorial from techpowerup but my study says they can be installed 4 different ways. This is still going on my Q9650, so is there a "Best" way to mount the EK block? Details please

Thanks again,

well, so i saved this project for a cold day and well, it was -1F and i had to take my case outside on the back portch and use the 4-1/2 hole saw to cut through the case, cause all the pin hair shavings were going everywhere

pics of the RAD mount soon

what a miserable day

yeah, i was out on the back portch drilling out the holes too, hehe; the aluminum shreds where extremely fine and went everywhere - i was soo paranoid about it. it took me about an hour and a half to clean up the mess i started in the kitchen.... i had to use the vacuum cleaner and that was a bad idea, then i had to take wet paper towels to clean up every inch were those shreds went but its mounted & the screw holes are almost 100%accurate ~ 90%

Hello BTRY.

Did you buy the Lian-li A70A case?

If so, then you'll have the same liquid cooling parts / case as I've got.

Did you have any luck finding the best orientation for the EK Supreme block? I've got a QX9770, so I would be interested to know.

I'm just waiting on the PT Nuke, 360mm long fan grille and a barb to turn up, which will hopefully be early next week, then it will be time to start cutting holes in the case and bench testing the liquid cooling system.

just realized you had some pics. looking good so far. Do you think the spacer under the rad with the fans will cause some kind of extra noise? kind of like some kind of wind tunnel? keep me/us posted on your progress

I hope not. I have some rubber washers if it does but hopefully not. The rest of the parts for my loop will be in the 3rd. Thought about adding some elbo and T's and 3 extra Fill ports to cover those hideous 1" hole cuts I made.... shhhh don't tell anyone, lol - i'll give you before and after pics of the drilled out holes, you'll die, haha

lol; send me the pics.

I also checked out that Cheezit link you gave me; he did an excellent job on that case; especially with what he had to work with.

btry flip the shrouds.

your using them wrong..

they need to go in the middle of your fans and rad.. Not the other way around.

The thing you want instead are these guys for the way your using them.

The purpose of a shroud is to space the fans out, so you get a less of a deadzone in the middle.

The way you have them setup is an efficient means to use them.
(oh wait, are you after bling?)

I'd hate to have to go through lining up those pins.. but I understand your point by the dead zone... hmmm I wasn't thinkin of that. That would maximize cooling the rad/water.

HAhaha! yeah, I've had people comment on my work saying I'm a great carpenter whenever they try to build something it comes out poorly, they have two left thumbs, etc, etc. In reality my skills are nothing out of the ordinary, the key is hiding your mistakes, I've had lots of practice:D

how are you gonna mount your dvd rom?

put the dvd rom at the lowest portion, and have the ddc res/top sit on top?

I have used an external DVDrom for the past 4-5yrs connected via USB and i rarely use it after I do all my game installs.

I have one question. What is the trick to sliding the tubing over the barbs!?!?! its killing me! Its taken over a half hour just to get one side on an elbow, no joke. PLEASE tell me the trick :D

EDIT: and is it recommended that i use some sort of tie over the barb and tubing? It seems there is no way water can get by. I have to take a pair of scissors and 5 min to take off tubing on one barb if I make a mistake..

Hot water. Fill a coffee mug w/ boiling water and dip the end of the tube in for a few seconds before install. If it is still problematic use KY jelly on the barbs. 7/16" masterclear on the high flow fittings only need zipties.

I want to ask if these gaps will suffice. ???

Looks fine.

So no zip ties over the tube flowing down to the res?

Also, I am stumped on what to do in-case I need to drain the loop. I am stuck on ideas where to put a drain line; before or after the pump ???

Another thing: I'm not sure if i need a fill port. The res has a pour hole; is that enough?
