I saw the review on the Everglide being a good pad for gaming, but not necessarily precision tracking. I need the best of both worlds.

Any recommendations? I'd like to get a sweet mouse pad and put the C4 on it for optimal tracking results.

Money is not an issue.

The C4 Will give you the best Tracking IMHO. However, even if money is not an issue I dont think you need to get a nice pad to put C4. There isnt any point. A premium mousepad under the C4 shouldnt make a big difference.

However, make sure the surface is smooth under the C4. If money is really no object I would get an everglide and put the C4 over that. That would be awsome. Just take care installing the c4 make sure not to bend it.

I found the tracking on C4 to improve significantly over the everglide surface. The stuff is super smooth, but also has an excellent texture that is conducive to very precise tracking.

Make sure you don't skip the teflon mouse tape.

Try cloth. It may not have the "speed" of a hard pad, but it's very accurate. A good mouse is also important. I found that the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 tracked poorly when moving the mouse slowly, something that you're bound to do when working with graphics. My Logitech mouseman dual optical is great at slow speeds. The MX700 I tried was also, but was too heavy for me.

I would stay away from cloth, it gets dirty and wears out quickly, wears unevenly, and tears. You are right about a good mouse however.

The most precise mouse I have ever used is the Razer Boomslang 2100. It's a ball mouse. However if you want to stick with optical the best choise is the MX700

I was going to purchase the Bluteooth wireless keyboard/mouse set for myself for christmas this year.... is the mx700 the same mouse that's included in that set?

It looks like it is.

Everglide Mouse Skatez review ,so far I`ve tried it on my old partially worn Everglide Giganta pad and my new XIDE Pad 2 ,the results in both cases has been improved & very smooth slick movements, friction being reduced by quite a lot ,as a gamer highly recommended IMHO.

You get enough tape for at least two mice, probably do more depending on how small you cut the tape into strips.Hard bit is peeling the protective back paper off the sticky Skatez tape which is ultra thin.

Okay, I did some quick research, and here's the setup I think I'm gonna purchase this season:

-Logitech® Cordless MX? Duo Wireless Keyboard/Mouse Set (mx700 rechargeable mouse).
-Everglide Ricochet 2.52 mousepad (Lava Black)
-CS Hyde C4
-CS Hyde Teflon Mouse Tape

Comments? Suggestions?

I don't know what your talking about MS Optical mice being bad. I have not had any problems with my explorer or my new Tilt wheel explorer mouse...

Yeah that should be a great setup. Just make sure you keep the mx700 fully charged all the time, for best performance.

Oh yeah, make sure you buy the right size C4 to fit your mousepad, it comes in 2 different sizes. Better a little bigger, than a little smaller, because it is easy to trim with an exacto knife or scissors. I have heard the 16x16 is a little hard to apply, so be careful if you get that size. It wont be a problem as long as you are careful.

I'm pretty careful anyway, so I'll most likely get the 16 x 16. Thank again for the advice.

One more question for ya and then I'll leave you alone... Do you know how long is the mx700's battery life?

Is it possible to have more than 1 mx700 set up to use the same PC? So say I start to wear down one of the mx700's battery life, I can just dock it and pick up the other one and continue working.

Is that possible?

I don't see why not, other than you might have to reset the wireless signal when you do it. I would shoot that question off to logitech. However I am guessing that as long as you put the mouse on it's cradle every time you are done using it, it should be fine.

I just went over to the logitech website, and since you had said price is not an object, I thought you should see this:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=3&CONTENTID=7110&countryid=19&languageid=1'

Its the newer MX900 and it uses bluetooth wireless technology. only 30$ more than the MX700

If you want a bluetooth keyboard as well, then you can get the combo pack:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=486&CONTENTID=7153&countryid=19&languageid=1

179$ for keyboard and MX900

I used 3 Intellimouse Explorer 3.0s before I gave up on them. They tended to "jerk" all of a sudden when moving the cursor from a standstill. My roommate swore by his though, so this may be a matter of preference.

My cloth pad is about 3 or 4 years old and still performs as it did when I bought it. Dirty? Sure. Dirty to the point where it affects performance? Heck no. The bottom part is just now starting to separate from the foam if you pick at it. I can always turn the pad 180 degrees before wearing it out completely. In addition to the great tracking and optical friendly surface, it feels nice on my hand and the fact that it's flexible makes it easier to carry to a lan. :)

Cloth pads of years gone by were indeed inferior. I got one with my first computer in 97 and it crapped out in less than a year before becoming heavily stained and almost rough before I chucked it. Newer pads are relatively thin and durable. Good stuff!

I have a fUNC 1030, works very well. I've had it for over a year and it hasn't gone dull yet.

Hmmm , I can understand having one for the comfort factor. However as far as tracking goes, I still haven't come across anything that tracks like the C4

I have mailny been using my boomslang, but today I decided to use my intellimouse explorer wireless....

Well, the problems with tracking that some people mentioned (like small movements and jumpiness) Dissapear for me when using the C4. I can make extremeley small movements (almost as small as with my boomslang) and they are tracked perfectly.
