I wanted an optical mouse so tried the Intellimouse Explorer, but hated it. Too big, shape was bad. Didn't like buttons (too easy to press, side button location and size). I went back to the Logitech for awhile but finally got the Explorer 3.0 when it came out. It's a little smaller, so usable. I still don't like the buttons. I think that using two thumb buttons is much easier than one on each side (ala Intellimouse 5 button non-Explorer). Also w/ the Logitech, sometimes whatever function I'd programmed into the extra buttons (like close program!) would still perform that function inside games, and also preventing me from assigning that button in the game. Haven't tried programming the Explorer yet, since I haven't loaded the Intellipoint software yet (still using XP's default drivers).
My 2 cents.
I ended up with the MS as well because of crappy support (software)
man, Logitech could sell alot more product if they actually made their software work properly.
their hardware is gold, they just need to get Mouseware working right.
the new MX mice are easily the nicest feeling mice I have ever felt.. bar none.
the last best feeling mouse was my Logitech iFeel Mouseman optical... loved it. i used it so much the bottom pads wore off and it started wearing into the plastic on the mouse, and then started rubbing on the rubber on the side. had to retire that beast.
Logitech mice forever!
like you, i hate the feel of my MS mouse, but at the time, only one that I could do what I wanted with.
now, with new Mouseware, I may be able to sell this or move it to another computer and get the mouse I actually like.
