First FPS multiplayer game, and it was awesome by those days standards.

Baldur's Gate II

Nice - I recently replayed that all over again 😀

i installed and started an assassin (after beating it like 4x with a monk)

just got to spellhold w/ anomen, keldorn, minsc, cernd, and edwin

I absolutely loved baldur's gate 1 and 2, 1 moreso because of the more epic storyline and it didn't get all gadgety/science-fictiony like 2 did. Neverwinter Nights just can't compare IMHO to the beauty and epic feel of these two games. Since I can't decide on one favorite game, my tops are:

Baldur's Gate 1
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
X-COM: UFO Defense
Quest for Glory IV

fps: halo 1/halo ce
platformers: doesnt get better than mario, for nes/snes/64
strategy: chessmaster 10th
rpg: final fantasy series
fighting: mortal kombat

plenty of nostalgia there

Though I luv FPS games all of my favorite games are not of this genre!! I do have to agree though that such a question is not correct. Best game for each genre is more appropriate..
Anyway if I had to choose it would be between the oldies "Eye of the Beholder", and "Deyteros" and Fallout 1. Long lasting games with amazing atmosphere...

The most fun I've ever had in a video game was in the golden days of Ultima Online. No moronic level grinds or item-based combat. My thief guild terrorized Occlo like no other.

I excluded UO because MMORPG are so mutable I discounted them from consideration. Plus classic UO doesn't exist any more and people on this forum are sick of me waxing on about the magic of that game. 🙂

UO + Civ I/II took up more computer gaming time than all other games combined.

legend of zelda:link to the past (snes)
goldeneye - dominated my free time from 6th grade-8th grade
HL/HL2 and the subsequent cs's which I have played since beta 5 in 2000-present

Chrono Trigger
Great story
Great graphics
Great characters (by Akira Toriyama of DBZ fame)
Great music
Great gameplay
Great replay value (New Game+)
No random battles
Dual and Triple Techs
Multiple endings

Final Fantasy VII would be a close second, however.

WOW. I thought myself and a handful of co-workers were the ONLY people on this planet that played that game. We loved it!
