You forgot Unreal and Rainbow Six, two other awesome FPS titles that came out in 1998. Both of them started some of the best game franchises of all time.

The Total Annihilation Core Contingency expansion pack came out as well, which also kicked ass.
 
Never played Half Life. Never enjoyed Starcraft. Never really got into Ocarina of Time.

My favorite would be Fallout 2. I've replayed that game at least a dozen times over the years.
 
tough choice between starcraft and ocarina of time... I'd have to say ocarina because I enjoyed it more. i may have played more total hours of starcraft, but i LOVED ocarina of time.
 
OoT. I'm actually replaying it right now. The only other games I've played on that list are Starcraft and HL and I never really enjoyed either of them.
 
1998 was a year before I got into PC Games... but I did have an N64. So my choice has to be Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I still have that game (and the N64 too), in all it's golden cartridge glory.
 
I think Ocarina of Time is by far my favorite game every made. Exceptionally well done IMO. Of course, if we were doing categories, several of those games would top my lists.

I found the uber challenge for OoT a couple years back and started it.

It's really hard... uses glitches throughout the game to let you to skip picking up items and go places you aren't supposed to etc. Unfortunately I got stuck for a while at the point where you get into Gerudo valley as a kid and then my TV broke. Really fun to try if you love the game and want another crack at what feels like a new game.
 
How could I possibly choose between Half-life, Ocarina of Time, Starcraft, or Metal Gear Solid?
 
Wasn't Unreal or Unreal Tournament '98? Man those were some fun games.

Though StarCraft has to take the cake, will probably go down as best game of all time
