Darn you OP why the EFF didnt you say "Computer" or "Video" game... I kept ignoring this thread... though it was about some real sport... Darn darn darn...

party like it's 1998? to me the original HL at launch was very similar to the other FPS of it's day, Q2, Blood, etc. Because I was mainly playing Q2 CTF and Unreal, it's MP doesn't appeal to me at all. It doesn't really get on my fav list until CS and DoD came out. Never was a fan of SC, i was always more on the Age of Empires side. Grim Fandango on the other hand gets my vote as for being polish and fun. not to mention pretty much bug free.

Half life wins for me ...

But there's lots of others who are close ...
Alpha Centauri
Descent freespace
Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now
Tribes
Fallout 2
Baldur's Gate

One game that wasn't really great, and didn't have much lasting replayabillity, but still was a ton of fun for a bit, was "Sin", it was so much fun playing that in college, my roomate would set up a server on his PC, and the 2 of us would dominate everybody else who dared connect to his server .... muahahahahaha!

Starcraft, because it's still fun to play today (replay value). Half-Life for one time play (unless you count mods like Counter-strike, Day of Defeat or Team Fortress which is also fun today).

Dec 1997 is effectively 1998. Quake II. HL is for queers.

I bought QII the day it came out, it rocked my world. Then, HL came out and showed me what a modified Q1 engine could REALLY do. They outdid id on almost every level. I'll say QII had the upper hand when it came to MP thought (only when the CTF / extra DM maps came along) otherwise, out of the box, HL > QII

You are correct, but I have played about 2 offline PC games ever. Online is where it's at, and for that Q2 > most everything to this day.
