I really PCLinuxOS...it's got features of Mandrake with apt-get, KDE 3.3, plenty of applications, and has a very nice "Windows-like" shell. Just download the bootable CD to test it out and see if you like it.

Mandrake is what you stick on your wife/girlfriends computer. I wouldnt really consider it a good learning version at all but is fun to play with. It is one of the better "all-in-one" linux packages around though big applause for the "windows like" updating. Rarely have to hunt for drivers. And has a windows95/macOS9 feel to it. depending on what shell you use of course....
So another vote for Mandrake for a month or two for feel then off to Unbuntu/Debian.
