BEST Cooler for i7

That´s it guys, I need an awesome cooler for i7, I need to overclock it. With it´s default cooler the core temps are reaching the 80´s. My case has 7 fans, and I´d like a "Tower Cooler", so it would work perfectly with the case´s air flow.

Its a new company so not many will know about it yet, but you should really checkout the "Prolimatech Megahalems". It was recently reviewed and compaired against a lot of good coollers (including thermalright Ultra-120 extreme) and beat them all on an overclocked i7 CPU. Don't use older reviews based on the C2D as the i7's cores are in different located compared to the C2D chips (it is also a much larger chip then the C2D chips). You can get the coller from frozencpu (I don't know of any other place selling it yet). Oh, and the Prolimatech guys are a bunch of Thermalright engineers who left to found a new company...

I´ve seen reviews where the Megahalem ALMOST reaches the True, with the last one winning by 2~3 degrees. So i´m still in doubt.... By the way, i´ll be using TWO fans in the cooler.

I've seen those reviews as well, however, every one of them that I have seen was using a C2D CPU not a i7. The only review that I have seen of it comparing against the TRUE on an i7, the Megahalem beats it by 2.5 degrees when using the same fans on the Megahalem as the TRUE.

Water...your i7 will love to go swimming. I run my rig 24/7 at 3660 @ 1.2vcore with a dual rad.

Idle (room temps are about 78f) and my idle is 36, full load at 54. and my chip is not one of the cool running chips by any stretch.

It's money in the beginning, but then you add water to your gpu's and watch all the temps come way down. JMO.

Give me a bigger case and I´ll water it with pleasure =]. I just bought this rig and I spent more than two hundred dollars on my Case with fans, and i don´t have money to buy it. I live in Brazil, and it sux alot in terms of computer, as my mom is going to NY in 2 weeks she will buy me a cooler, and I can affoda a 100 dollars cooler only (Heatsink + Fans) so no way I can watercooler it.

By the way, which is the BEST Thermalright? I know there´s Cooper, Extreme, Black, etc...

http://www.frozencpu.com/produ...LGA_1366_AM2_Xeon.html OMGF IT´S FUCKING EXPENSIVE!!!!!

So guys, is the Black Edition the SAME as the normal one (except the color?) and what about the "6 heatpipes version" (the cheaper).

Just remember that all the people recommending that TRUE are basing that recommendation on lapping the bottom of that heatsink. If you don't lap it, an OCZ Vendetta 2 will beat the TRUE (and only cost 1/2 the price). So be prepared for 4-6 hours of lapping if you do get a TRUE as the base is intentionally convex and has tons of machining grooves still in it.

It CAN be an awesome heatsink, but you have to put 4-6 hours of extra time into it to make it one. If you just want to open the box, slap on a fan, put on some thermal interface compound and place it on a CPU, the TRUE really is an overpriced POS compared to the rest of the market.

I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison of a lapped TRUE against a Prolimatech Megahalem...since the engineers stated the Megahalem shouldn't be lapped.
As far as lapping goes, I think i'd forgo the few bucks for the sandpaper & hunting down a perfectly flat surface & let the place I purchase the cooler do it for me (for $19)...but what can I say...i'm lazy. 🙂

No way i´ll do lapping on it. No time/No material/No place in my home where I can do it. So I guess Prolimatech is better for me (ans cheaper) What do you guys think? And by the way, is TRUE cooper better than TRUE Black?

CrazyPC will lap it for you for an additional $19.
That's why I was wondering about a comparison of a lapped TRUE against a Megahalem...how much cooler & if it'd be worth the extra $19.
Of course, if someone was willing to void their warranties on both products by having it lapped then compare a lapped TRUE to a lapped Megahalem, that'd really be interesting!

I Live in Brazil and i´ll order it online. If they offer this service at their online store maybe i´ll buy there. But I need to know the perfomance comparinng i7 temperatures. TRUE or Megahalem?

Why shouldnt the Prolimatech be lapped?
