I worked in the RTP for IBM for a contract job back in 2000. Find a headhunter that is located in the area. I would recommend the one that I used, but that was 5 years ago and I can't remember the company's name.

Also, there are plenty of tech jobs in Las Vegas, and the cost of living is fairly affordable.

Just don't venture outside of the Raleigh area and you should be fine.

Ummm....how would you go about getting security clearance, other than being former military? (Serious question - have no idea at all)

Thought they were only interested in folks with higher degrees than I have, and usually $100k+ positions? Generally, it's *hack*temp agencies*spit* more involved with my salary range, no?

Get your foot in the door by using a headhunter, then go from there. When I worked for IBM, the positions headhunters were offering were temp to hire 6 month contracts. At the time, IBM had just had a huge exodus of empoyees who went to work for SAP just down the street. They were desperate for workers and were willing to pay big bucks for anyone with a little experience. The situation probably has changed, but who knows...

Okay, looking at a place to move with a better demand for IT positions. Central Oregon is nice and all, but...few opportunities, here.

California is right out, as I only have an AAB, vocational cert, 8+ years high-level support experience...and that's not enough in CA to get a job anywhere that pays better than burger flipping.

Sooo...looking to move somewhere where that level of skill (which isn't static - I'm working on higher degrees and other certifications....I love education - but these things take time) is appropriate for a moderate paying IT job....defined as $45k+.

From what our house would sell for, we are looking at somewhere where you could get a nice flat in the city for around $300k. ("In the city" meaning - walking distance to an organic market, boutique retail shops, etc. Population is not as relevant - something 200k and up, I suppose.)

Sooo....is there ANYWHERE like that in the US?

Or, alternatively, any site I can look around with such criteria in mind and find potential move-to locations?

i was going to suggest baltimore for a city with decent $300K housing and IT positions paying $45K+, but i think the educational requirements are generally higher than what you have.

...but then i noticed you want a "flat", not a house or apartment. i guess you'll need to look in the UK then ;)
