Um, I have an 1700+ DLT3C that runs at 2.4Ghz and I've read of people reaching 2.5Ghz ++

You mean the 533?

And a 1.03 ghz overclock on a 1.466 chip is pretty impressive.

I say its a tie.......:) I seen a few 1.6A's that did over 1 gig overclocks too.

I still think some Athlon's are overclock higher than that on air in terms of megahertz. I know 1800+'s which are 1.53 GHz are sometimes overclock beyond 2 GHz on air.

There was no qualifying statement about air cooling and I've seen the 1700+clocked at 3ghz+ with prometia ;) I won't mention NO2 because thst isn't a viable solution for extended use as prometia is.

but whats the best chip to OC compared to its stock speed

a 1700+ over 3ghz is amazing
and the 566 at 1.2 is great, its like the same percentage gain

3 ghz is with phase change...

i dunno, what percentage of people use phase change?

oh well..

The thread starter said nothing about cooling being used, ect. They wanted to know what overclocked the best compared to stock speed and it's hard to beat a 1700+ for that

You dont remember right because all the celerons were multiplier locked including the 300a, it was a 66mhz cpu that you overclocked to 450 by using 100mhz fsb.

Ditto, call it nostalga or whatever, but when the Celery 366>550 was the rage I had my 333@550 (5x110) on my BP6. Even flirted with 124fsb (620), but got lockups after a few minutes. never did know if it was the board, the cpu, or the cooling. I think I retired mine December 2002 --- a very sad day.

If you are talking strictly about an OC in Hz, then it is obvious that the P4M 1.4GHz is the best, OCing 1.6GHz+ over its stock 1.4GHz. I'm not exactly sure what the core clock of the 1700+ is, but assuming its just above 1.4GHz, it comes close to the healthy OC the P4M had in Hz. But if you are looking for the best OCer with respect to stock speed, you have to look at the OC as a percentage. In this case the old Celeron has it, as a 566MHz @ 1.2GHz is a 112% OC. I heard someone else mention that the 1700+ had about the same %OC. If that's the case, then the 566MHz Celeron was capable of running 2.12 times as fast as its stock speed, and the 1700+ was capable of similar feats. So with respect to their srock speeds, these were the best OCers.

We have ruled out LN2 cooling as it is just showboating. You can't run them for hours on end.

suppose we considered the LN2 cooling solution. 1.1GHz is a healthy OC, but still falls short of the 1.6GHz+ OC of the Celeron and the 1700+.

celeron was my first oc cpu
366@550mhz

back that I thought that was amazing but nowadays, 1ghz over default is some what considered nice...

P4 1.8 @2.88
xp1700+ 1.46@2.4

all air cooled

my first duron was 600mhz that ran 1.1ghz with the stock hsf

most of those old athlon and durons would hit 1ghz

My old Celeron 300a at 450 still is my favorite overclock. For 1/5 the price, I could equal the performance of the fastest CPU at that time, the PII 450.
