I'm not exactly sure what the core clock of the 1700+ is, but assuming its just above 1.4GHz, it comes close to the healthy OC the P4M had in Hz. But if you are looking for the best OCer with respect to stock speed, you have to look at the OC as a percentage. In this case the old Celeron has it, as a 566MHz @ 1.2GHz is a 112% OC. I heard someone else mention that the 1700+ had about the same %OC. If that's the case, then the 566MHz Celeron was capable of running 2.12 times as fast as its stock speed, and the 1700+ was capable of similar feats. So with respect to their srock speeds, these were the best OCers.

What mobo's were hot to use for these celeron oc's?

Yeah, I also had a 300a at 450 on a bx6, Then two 333a at 550 on a bp6 with Alphas. Those were the days.

nitrous oxide? :p

either way id have to go with either the celeron or the newer 1700+'s since each can pretty much get a 100% OC on (double speed)

lol...i never OCed a Celeron myself. i just read articles and documentation on those who did, both at hardware review sites and their forums. You might run a search for an OCed celeron 566 at a hardware review site like AnandTech or Tom's Hardware. Something is sure to come up in their archives, and those articles that do will surely give the system specs of the platform used in the OCing experiment. Also try running a search in the forums. I'm sure you'll find the mainboards used that way...

The Abit BX6 Rev. 2 was the hottest.... I had a celeron 300A runningf 531Mhz in one.. The PII 450 wasn't even out yet. :)

I heard that the Celeron 300A was the best evere OCer for the price. Not in terms of pure mhz, but i terms of what you payed for it, and what you got from the OC.
Then the XP1700`s were supposed to be the next big OCer. I think.

I think the best overclocker for the money today is the 2500+. You can pick one up for $83 and mine easily overclocks to the 3200+ speed which once again is as fast as you can buy stock retail. I feel like I have my 300a back!;)

Are you referring to the Barton core? I was just wondering b/c my roomie is upgrading in the next few weeks and i'm ordering his parts for him. I was planning on getting a 2500+ Barton just b/c its so cheap right now. He's not an OCer, but if i could get the right mainboard and memory for a low price, i could OC his system and squeeze some extra performance out of it for an overall low price.

100% oc? I rarely see any 2932mhz 1700+ and most are extreme cooled. I'd have to say 600 durons are up there since many hit over 1.0 and 1.1 with good air cooling which is well over an 80% oc.

My first OC was a Pentium 75Mhz to 100Mhz. Loved the Celeron 300a to 464MHz. Favorite was the Celeron 366@550MHz. Ran 2 of those in a BP6 :) P3 700MHz to 933Mhz.

Boards? Abit BX6r2, Abit BP6, Asus P3V4X.

id have to say the celerons were the best oc'able chips, cause they actually performed like monsters when oc'ed. i remember having a 366@550 using a house fan to cool it. it had 128 mb sdram pc100, 2x64, tnt2 oc'ed to ultra speeds. that lil bastard got 80 fps in quake 3. then after that i went to a celeron 566 @ 1.2ghz using water cooling and a bunch of heatsink additions to my vid card and so on, it was the ugliest setup ever, but i was at 1.2ghz on a 566. the thing hauled ass for being what it was. it out performed all my friends and their k7's. :D i loved the celerons back then, as for now, im a p4 man. wooooo.

my 1.6a runs at 2.56 @ 1.675 volts and ~35c if i didnt care about the longevity of the processor im sure i could go higher :)

nice dood. oc'ing is awesome. i wish i could squeeze more out of my p4 though, have a 2.6c running at 3.11, not bad at all, but i want 3.5ghz like some of these people are getting.

hey now no one ever specified what cooling method :p
but as of today the 1700+ or the 2100+ is about the best bang for the buck you can get.

I think the crown should go to the 1.6a p4 northwood....I personally had mine at 2.736ghz with 1.7v and temps were not an issue with the alpha....This could have been attained with just a decent cooler....1.136ghz increase...

Thugs is right on the p4m as well, but lets disqualify it for not being on the right platform!!!!;)

We`re seeing bigger OCs from the XP1700s though.
