Best cheap GM: Cavalier, Sunfire, or Ion?

I get a GM discount (through my father who works at Rockwell Collins, a GM supplier), so the Civics, etc. are out of the question.

I'll leave out my own opinions for now in order to not influence the polls.

ION

New Epsilon platform and just newer overall. Cavaliers are ugly, Sunfires are ugly, Ions are ugly.......but.......not beyond redemption. Cavalier and Sunfire platforms are how old now? 10 years? 15?

I used to have an 88 Cavalier, automatic 2.0. Was good reliable transportation,
put over 120k miles on it.

My brother had a 91 Cavalier 5 spd., served him well, also.

Is the GM clone of the Corolla still available for 2003 ?

I did not see it..but did see the Tracker

This is the last year for this piece of sh|t. Ever seen it's roll-over ratings!? :Q I'm surprised people still buy this. Although for the six months that I've worked for GM, I have not had one single effing call about the Tracker. 😀

Well, here goes:

I hear the Sunfire has a better suspension than the Cavalier.

The Ion has a sweet dash.

They all look like crap, but the Cavalier looks the worst.

The Cavalier has the best track record from what I've heard.

Anyone hear anything bad about the ecotec? All I've heard is good stuff about it.

I know the Tracker is an extremely capable off-road vehicle.

back to topic, how about a base model Alero or GrandAm?

Actually, it is based off of the Delta platform, like the new Cobalt (Cavalier replacement).

At 17,695, the Grand Am is tad out of my range, but it would be pretty sweet to own.

At 18,710, the Alero is not only out of my range, but it's also out of my taste.

The EcoTec is a great engine, but I don't like the Cavalier, Sunfire, or Ion all too much.. Cavalier looks the best out of the 3 IMO.. I would just shoot for a base model Grand Am, you can get a slightly used one for pretty cheap.

No one pays 18,710 for an Alero. No one. I got one last week with a GM employee's discount and rebates for a bit over 13k. I don't know how that compares to a Sunfire, ION, or Cavalier, but I think it is a much better looking car than either of those. Mine is in black 🙂.

I know. You'd be stupid to pay retail for any car, discount or not.

Think about this, though: 13k is a lot of money when you don't have it. I'll be lucky if I can finance a Cavalier WITH the discount.
