GM should be releasing their supercharger for the Ecotec within the next couple of months. It'll be about $3,000 (the same as the LD9 twin cam supercharger) and you keep your warranty. Now I just need another credit card with a 3K limit.

Sadly, yes. 🙁

I must know one key fact, though. Was it driven hard? My sister's Cavalier is standing up to her abuse quite well. (She personally knows all the local cops from the number of times she's been pulled over speeding.) Other Cavalier-owning friends of mine all say they're great.

My only problem with the Ion is how new it is. I like proven designs, personally. New isn't always better, and old isn't always worse. Conversely, new isn't always worse, and old isn't always proven. We're therefore stuck, on that issue, between a rock and a hard place.

I'm leaning towards the Ion now for several reasons. First and foremost, it's the cheapest. As a distant second, it's the roomiest. Without a standard CD player, I can save money by getting an after-market CD player with lower cost and higher quality.

Most reviews of the Cavalier and Sunfire say that they are crude and outdated. Bottom of the barrel basic transportation. My vote for small GM car would be the Alero--is it still being made? If not, I guess the Ion by default.

Does this answer your Alero question? It's 18710 for the cheapest new one, putting it out of my price range. I already decided that I want a new car. It was the first of the many decisions I've had to make concering my car purchase.

the nice thing about your choices is, if you get the ecotech 4cyl, it's pretty easily modded to some great horsepower for cheap

A friend of mine at work today told me that the cams on the Ecotec are pretty hard to work around.

The Vibe would be a really good decision IMO. I passed over it, I was in the same position as you almost.

We all still stand by not getting the Sunfire or Cavalier. If I absolutely HAD to get one of those it'd be an Ion or a S10/Sonoma.
