Went to my local best buy to see if there were any good deals today and spotted this.

sku: 8294482
Seagate 500GB for 56.99 Closeout

The one I checked is a 7200.10

It is a PATA drive but good price, I would have preferred SATA however they were regular price.

I have gotten in on a few of theses BB closeout deals they are nice when you can get in on them but can be frustrating since the price availability varies from store to store even in the same region.

Good luck

BTW
BB in Mooresville NC is out of stock :)

Don't bother at the West LA one.

It's marked $95 or so.

I tried to get one to pricematch, but the tech said they were out. Probably BSing I think. They had the display boxes out but the actual drives are in the back somewhere. That store is impossible to get good deals on because of the drives being stored in the back.

BB employees are bastards.

I called Store 1 to see if this item is in stock; the guy said no. I called Store 2 to see if they have them in stock, she said no, but that Store 1 has 2 of them for $56.99. That's odd, I thought. Then I remembered reading on this forum how one guy got a really good deal on an mp3 player by finding one hidden on the shelves even though BB employees said none were left, so I headed down to Store 1.

I asked one guy to look up the item for me and I made sure to watch the monitor as he typed in the SKU. The computer said there were 2 in stock, despite that guy adamantly denying there's any left. It was the same guy who I talked to initially on the phone.

Since he wouldn't help me, I tore through the shelves myself, and whatdaya know! This HD is hidden behind similar looking boxes way in the back of the more expensive HD. One of the employees who was also supposed to help me find one saw I had that HD in my hand and approached me. I asked him bluntly if BB employees ever lie to customers about items availability so they can score one themselves after hours. Then he fed me some denials and all that.

So Tri-County BB in Cincinnati Ohio has one more left in stock supposedly. I didn't see the last one on the shelf where the HDs were, so my guess is that they took one and hid it among some other items within the store. I dislike Best Buy.

But I like the OP...thanks for the heads up.

Actually the stock counts can be expected to be off 1-2 normally. Either the item gets stolen, grabbed by a customer then dumped somewhere else when they decide they dont want it, or its just lost in the store somewhere. (I work on the Geek Squad, trust me I look for HDD's all the time) The guys that work in the computer department make $8-9/hour and have managers constantly hounding them to make big sales and attach out the wazzoo. I'm sure the last thing he wants to do is go search for a clearanced out HDD for a half hour in hopes of finding it for you because I'm sure his manager will be thrilled that the Best Buy lost money on the clearanced HDD that he spent the last 30 minutes looking for, BUT WAIT! it's all okay becuase YOU are happy and that is all that matters!

So what if you had to get dirty and look around for a bit instead of having handed to you on a platter. More power to you for being a dick and accusing him of hiding it from you.

Work in customer service much? Him being happy is all that matters, and if the manager says anything diff, he can call corporate office, tell em, and get the manager a friendly boot up his ass for making BB look bad.

Dude you can't seriously be saying you are defending the nitwit working at Best Buy that lied to the customer. If it were me I would done pretty much the same thing, but before I went looking for it, I would have asked the guy, "Now I shouldn't find this hard drive hidden behind another hard drive or in another section when I go back there to look for it, will I?" Then after finding said drive I'd go back to the stupid idiot and toss it in front of him and say, I guess this is a mirage since you told me there were none in stock. I guess I get it for free since it doesn't exist correct?

Apparently you have some customer service experiences you are still bitter about.

If you were in my shoes, you should have seen how the whole shelf was stocked haphazardly, but there the more expensive hard drive section was neat and even; add to that the hard drive I was looking for was hidden way behind these more expensive hard drives, it's pretty apparent someone purposefully hid it and only cared to clean up this particular section of the shelf.

So...yes, I got what I want. I'm pretty happy, and that's all it matters. Plus, it's his job to assist customers (not for 30 minutes, just 5 would do), even if he's getting paid $8-9 / hr. It's still his job. So your excusing him for lying to me and then his refusal to help me find the hard drive tells me you have crappy work ethics. With that kind of "I only get paid $8-9/hr so I can't be expected to do the job I'm hired to do" mentality, good luck ever succeeding in the real world. YOU FAIL @ LIFE.

According to their in-store inventory, there is one in Danbury CT, but they could not locate it.

However, I was able to get this BB to PM the Razer Deathadder gaming mouse from CC.

They went online and saw the price and it listed it as instock at the CC in Danbury so the CSR gave me a PM at $25.XX, so not a total waste of a trip. Used $10 in Rewardzoine cash so out the door at $16+

I go the last 2 from Phila location (on Columbus Blvd.), but they were $70.99 each.

I have a question. What are the chances of the price going down (like other clearance items) if none are in stock? For example, the GAP (clothes) would do a price adjustment for 2 weeks from the purchase date, and I've had some sale/clearance stuff price adjusted within the period.

i'd have searched for that elusive second box, and buy both. then tell the CSR to kiss your ass.

i also work at geeksquad. i like good deals and i know everyone else does. i always do a quick scan in the morning, and let customers know about any clearance items i found. today i sold 1 of the $56 500GBs and 2 160GB WD portable HDDs for $69. i will admit that i occasionally grab something if i need it, but i try not to be a jerk and buy out everything that goes on clearance.

on that note, i think there are at least 2 of the 500 giggers left in Niles, Oh.
