go for the nec 22inch one on www.newegg.com. nec's make the many of the best crt monitors out in the market. go for 22inch, cuz the viewing size on a crt is smaller then that of an lcd. 19inch crt = 18inch viewing size whereas 19incl lcd = 19 inch viewing size.

i think 22" is just a waste
you'll notice that most 22" crt's have the same viewing area as the 21" of the same manufacturer
i picked up a viewsonic 21" g220fb to replace my older 17" e773
this monitor is great for gaming upto 1600x1200 with high refresh rates
you can use the desktop a little higher but need to drop to 65hz refresh rate which isn't too bad
this monitor was under 300 when i got it i believe
i like the g220fb
but there are a few other ones like samsung, nec, sony, etc. which might do the job

17" LCD > 19" CRT IMO (and I have both)

i also happen to use both at everyday, mine are prolly higher quality while at it (22' NF diamondtron vs dell1800FP, i dont own the latter - school property in fact) and CRT just eats the LCD for lunch :)

About the viewable space...
Almost all reputable monitor companies provide a monitor size (in inches) AS WELL AS a viewable size!
Thus, a 17" viewable CRT is actually a bit larger than a 17" LCD (LCD's DO HAVE FRAMES!!!)

I have a Viewsonic VX900 19" professional grade LCD and its a pleasure to game with. No eye fatigue on LCD's!

how many of you suggesting dynaflats over trini/diamondtrons have seen an AG tech based monitor in action? I made my switch about 4 years ago and I know i would never go back to SM. heck, the best samsung CRT is a diamondtron (909NF)

You can pick up a KDS Xtreme Flat 19" from OfficeMax that will do up to 1600x1200@75HZ for $99 ($199 - $99 MIR). Thats what I have, its a great budget monitor.:)

I am using a DiamondtronNF monitor right now; an HP P930.

Great monitor; VERY bright (almost too bright).

Lots of adjustments. But I think the Samsung is a great alternative for $100 less.

Personally I'd go for a 21-22" FDTrinitron/Diamondtron tube, whether from Sony, NEC/Mitsubishi or from another monitor manufacturer that uses their tubes. These are amazing. I'm using a 2nd hand hp p1120 now and it's really a lot better than the Nokia 445XPro 21" shadow mask that it replaced.

Just make sure that the dot clock is fast enough to support at least 1600x1200@85Hz though, preferably more. They mostly seem to top out at 1920x1440 or 2048x1536.

If you can't afford one new, I'd go for a 2nd hand one. HP, Dell and IBM all make nice OEM monitors based on the FDTrinitron tube :)
