I drive an old Audi 5000 turbo quattro.

It has a few quirks, but pretty well bulletproof otherwise.

Haha. The A4 weighs almost 1000 lbs more than the corolla, and is equally (if not more) safe according to the site posted. The camry is almost 500 lbs lighter as well. I'll take me in my a4 head on vs you in a corolla. I'll see you at your funeral.

Yeah, congrats! Its ratings are almost as good as a Honda Civic. I wonder if there's a basic disconnect between those arguing for and against German cars. The comparisons I've seen (A4 vs. Corolla, for example) are between cars in wholly different price ranges.

At this point, I think the "safety" argument is utter crap. From the data available at safercar.gov, the Pontiac G6 (a *Pontiac*) has safety ratings equivalent to a BMW 3. Argue performance, style, "intangibles" all you want, but the idea that Germans make significantly (or even slightly) safer cars at similar price points appears to be absurd.

Question: Is safety merely judged by accident injuries protected against, or accidents avoided? ABS, CBC, EBD, Traction Control, Stability Control, etc. Do they not count in safety, or is it just the final outcome of an accident at 40 mph?

OMGHI2U u're 1337 PwN3D. At least Dandrop spoke to me as an adult. Take a seat boy.

You have given up, otherwise I would have shown you how a Mercedes SLR and a Hyundai Tiburon are in the same class since they are both front engine coupes. But no, you have given up and I am a boy, so we'll leave it at that.

How is a BMW safer than a Toyota?

why did bmw, benz, audi include side curtain airbags and companies like toyota and honda made you pay extra for them when they first came out?

BTW, our family owns a 1998.5 Audi A6 2.8 fwd, its a great car. bought it used. it has its share of maintenece and such...

becasue toyota market target is the middle class. if toyota were to install airbag as standard. the price of their vechicle will certainly go up by $1000/2000. and to middle class family, thats alot to pay. they might risk their chance not getting into accident for it.<~~thats jus my guess

but let jus say its $1000-2000 for airbags. this would still make a $10-20k different b/w a japanese car and european car

Notice side curtain airbags standard on $17000 VWs. European manufacturers simply have a different philosophy on safety.

Japanese cars:

Made to drive.

where as...

European cars:

Made to drive.

If you don't understand that, then you will be fine in a Japanese car. Some people got the bug, some don't.

Because very few people have an Audi, and just about everyone has a Toyota or Honda. Secondly, I like the way mine drives, AWD, the luxury, the styling, the treatment when I go in for service, and the way the car is put together. I don't care if there is a Japanese car that is cheaper that has more "things" because I bought this car because *I* like it, not to make sure someone else did. I don't care what anyone thinks about it! ;)

Audi...took 2 months to find the price my dad was looking for on that A4. Oi, it was worth it. The way it performs, handles, looks, and feels. If only every car manufacturer (even Lexus and Bimmer) took a cue from Audi on interior quality and design, all would be good. Of course, that's my old man's car.

Still...on a visit home from school: "Hey Dad, you need anything from the supermarket? Corn? Nebraska it is...be back in a few days. No, it's no trouble at all."
