Sensationalize? He's a moron and in an important position. Sounding like an idiot for the sake of humor? He opened himself up to be criticized. But no, the guys sense of humor is non-existent. No amount of downplaying this changes the fact the guy is ridiculous.Looks to be tongue-in-cheek. Don't need to hype up or sensationalize this nonsense when there's so much legit criticism available.
Admit it, this topic has all the hallmarks of making !@#$ up on an opponent. It might as well be one of Trump's 3am tweets.
Carson did not intend to diminish slavery and you know it. That whole context is your projection onto him.
Yes, he has a history of saying odd things, of standing by them too. This isn't one of them.
*sigh* Always trying to make a thing out of something...
If a slave came from somewhere else, are they not an immigrant?
Since these were minutes from a meeting/discussion, the 'context' is what he was responding to when he said that. Here's the context:

Lol, absolutely not. A slave is enslaved against their will. The slaves brought to America did not want to come to America. An immigrant is intentionally making the chose to make another place their home for a multitude of reasons. You are being obtuse by making such a simplistic comment.
I'll say it again. No, a slave is not an immigrant. I return your sigh and up you a shake of my head.
compuwiz1, immigrate is a verb. An immigrant is one who has immigrated. If they were abducted, then clearly they did not immigrate. If someone is abducted and taken to another country, they're not called an immigrant-abductee or anything like that. Just like no-one (except maybe a closet slaver) calls a slave an employee, or a murder as an "extroverted suicide", or a soldier who dies on a foreign tour of duty as an immigrant.
Didn't Obama once say, "we are all immigrants, unless you're native american" ?
I'm pretty sure blacks aren't native american.
Weird how it's only a problem when conservatives say these things.
At some point they became citizens and later told their offspring where they immigrated from. Many people went on to become productive and valued citizens of the USA. They are immigrants.

No, apparently he referred to America as "a nation of immigrants". I'd say the wording he used was technically incorrect, though funnily enough everyone knew what he meant, ie. referring to the heritage of almost all modern-day Americans, and the rest of what he said makes sense with that. Ben Carson on the other hand just piled one idiotic and incorrect statement on top of another.
