Not to mention, I did actually use the phrase "may you live forever." That implies an infinite length of time. I wasn't talking about the debate over gay marriage as much as I was making the point that given an infinite time scale every single thing that everyone of us believes will amount to nothing. Makes it seem kind of petty to be bickering about it all the time, doesn't it? But I guess we have to have some sense of purpose in life. Rather than making sure everybody is happy and content, let's just fight with each other. Because someone changed the name of an ice cream flavor.

Fucking a...

well the maxim isn't "satisfaction is the mother of invention" for a reason, eh? Progress is driven by conflict and dissatisfaction with status quo, not contentment.

But in a hundred thousand years, if humans are still around, I have zero doubt that some civilization somewhere will have found a way to breed a specific species for sex. Hell, it may not even be a species that exists right now. But it'll happen. It happens on Star Trek... Sure, they may be sentient life forms, but it's still inter-species sex.

Do you honestly think that given an infinite time scale human beings will never make some form of interspecies marriage legal?

And in 100 billion years we could all have evolved into flying beings who can get themselves pregnant, but that is neither here nor there.

Considering that at its current rate of degeneration, the Y chromosome will be gone from the human genome ~70 million years from now, something would certainly have to happen.

Ok, the bolded arent happening, sorry. But you can dream!

you have no argument against such things after gay marriage. you have to live with it. if personal freedom is all that matters, thats what you will get.

like it or not, homosexuality is simply a relatively benign defect of the wasteful process of nature. its a mistake to raise it to its own class of normality.

so if you have a friend, relative, child, who proclaims he/she is homosexual you are going to treat them as abnormal?

no ones going to treat the disabled as "abnormal", but it does not follow that they should automatically be given rights and status that comes from things like marriage. i'm sure some are born with propensities to be attracted to children for instance, or to siblings. it does not follow we should extend normality to these relationships as well.

Why not? We extend rights to those who claim to have a relationship with God...

it sounds like you are saying the disabled shouldn't have rights either.

pedophilia ? homosexuality

you are trying the classic apples to oranges comparison. it's not working.

they have rights. but not the right to claim they are exactly the same as regular people. as for pedophilia and homosexuality, the only difference in abnormality is the consent in that case. put it this way, if deaf parents want to genetically engineer or select for a deaf child, it would be ok if you really go down the everything is "normal" line. would you really allow parents to select for homosexuality? accommodations can be made. civil unions are an excellent compromise.

Good one.

I wont be buying their ice cream anymore. Not that I ever really did.

Because they support gay marriage?

KT

If an ice cream brand wants to take a stand on a political issue, they better expect that they'll lose some customers because of it.

Personally, I think they should just stick to what they do best- selling ice cream and making people fat.

The only difference between rape and sex is consent. The only difference between theft and a gift is consent.

Consent is the difference between legal and illegal, moral and immoral.

Why?

I think gay marriage should be legalized but I still think it's stupid that an ice cream company is making a stand on the issue. That's just a dumb business move.

wrong, nice try to distort the comparison though. incest and polygamy become just fine if consent is the only thing that matters.

Your argument confuses me. It sounds like you are classing homosexuals as "disabled." You also seem to be speaking in terms of general evolution and nature, which is fine, but we are also human beings. We are long since evolved. Natural selection no longer applies to us.

For all anyone really knows being gay might be the next step in evolution. Now it might seem wasteful, but who knows in the future homosexuals might be the link. The whole of humanity might be breeding in completely different ways down the line. No one knows what we will become of us.

Sadly I can not buy this ice cream because they do not sell it in my country. Thankfully though I get to live in a country that has more personal freedoms then the USA. And one where the majority is not a bunch of T-Toting Harry Potter book burning weirdos.

And while I am impressed by some of the "liberal" views displayed in this thread, it is a shame that the American people as a whole gain an unfavourable reputation based on what a few extreme conservatives say and believe. Most likely because the conservatives are louder and people tend to remember the bad more the good.

I have to assume that homosexuals are the same way.
