WTF!!! My roommate was telling me that it is confirmed that Ben Afleck is playing Jack Ryan in the next Clancy movie. Who the *(^& is letting this monkey spunk take over this pivotal role!!!???? ARGH!!!:disgust:

On a side note, what ever happened to his butt buddy, Matt Damon? I mean, they both found fame at the same time with Good Will Hunting, and Ben wasn't even the main character in that movie. Looks like Matt got the short end of the stick🙂 Maybe Ben just got popular b/c he was nailing Gwynth Paltrow 😀
 
Yeah I heard that last year. Apparently Harrison Ford didn't want the role again.

Better than Alec Baldwin though.

I thought that Alec was better than Harrison Ford.
 
I liked Alec Baldwin better as Ryan than Ford. I think Ford plays the Harrison Ford character in almost all of his movies.
 
As a whole I would say that The Hunt for Red October was a better movie than Patriot Games or Clear and Present Danger but for me Ford just seemed more "right" as Jack Ryan.

Hahahaha, yep. Ford is the same Ford in ALL of his movies!!!

The middle-aged, frustrated male, that is trusty with a side arm, likes kicking ass on the side, and likes to spout off quick one-liners ala "GET OFF MY PLANE!"
 
Clancy approved his casting, so I'm sure he'll do a decent job. Liev Schreiber will be playing John Clark, and is supposedly pretty good in the part.

See it on a matinee before you judge it, most authors are very picky about their work being brought to the big screen, and Clancy has been surprisingly positive about TSOAF, where he wasn't for the others - esp. the casting of Alec Baldwin.

I'm out of the loop on this, which book are they making a movie of?

Found a trailer. Doesn't look bad...must be one of the earlier books if they used Affleck, plus he's not President or CIA director yet. Haven't read the book though 😛

I'd heard that Clancy had always wanted Ben Affleck to play Jack Ryan. Which book is being made into a movie anyway?
 
The plot is so far removed from the book that it'll blow donkeys IMO.

I have LOTR and Tolkien radar. I doubt there's a thread on AT that mentions either that I haven't put my 2 cents in 😉
 


I don't mind Bush becomes president--it's real life--, but Afleck plays Jack Ryan? Couldn't they get someone with gravitas?
It's like Pauly Shore play 007 or Don Knott play Man with No Name:Q

As long as it's made clear that Ford's Ryan is a more veteran, more gruff Affleck's Ryan, I don't see what's wrong. And after Changing Lanes, Affleck's career seems to be moving towards the action genre and TSOAF is just another stepping stone in that direction.

But heaven help someone if Ford's Indy is ever recast by Affleck's Indy. 😀
