Gallup poll finds that the belief in God has gone down from 87- 81% Younger liberal Americans, and the educated are less likely to believe in God. I think the internet has played a big part in the decline as well. The internet has made it possible to research other religions, or atheism. We have the abilty to watch atheist YT channles like the Atheist Experience, Paulogia and Rationality Rules to name just a few. I just watched a debate bewen Christopher Hitchens, Stephen Frye vs the Catholic Church. Are you thinking about converting from Baptist to the Hindu religion? You don't think the events in Genesis are real? We now have the luxury to explore and learn thru the internet. Our parents and grandparents didn't have this opportunity. They took what they learned as young children as truth, and didn't know any better.

IMO, this is just a start. As these young people grow older and have children of their own and so on... I see this downward trend continuing.

Modern Christians did a great job of driving me away from any religious views.

Yea. A book was released on the most violent religions in history. At #1 came Christanity. Most of that is from the Roman Catholic conquest of South America and Africa. At the #2 were the atheist countries, and #3 were the Buddhist. As the msot violent religions. At the bottom of that list was Islam, whcih I find unbelievable. The book was wrritten by Muslim professors, so I don't know how much bias played a role when they wrote the book.

Two of my favorite atheist YT channels has to be Mythvision and Paulogia. Mythvision has actual non-Christian academic historians who know the true history behind Christanity. The myths that many Christians take as truth. They take a non-bias critical look at the history of Christanity. On the other side, there are Christian academic historians who take the opposite approach. The main problem with these Christian historians is they aren't allowed to critize Christanity in any way, or else they could be fired from their place of work. Its in their contract. And so, they have a very biased view of Christanity.

One of my favorites. The Myth of Christian Persecution.

Younger people aren't stupid. When they see a bunch of so called Christians dump their beliefs for a person like Trump it cements their phoniness.

Most notably the notorious habit of some Christians for being hypocrites, especially when it comes to politics. If the devil is in the house of the Lord, then most assuredly his home away from home is Congress and that's where so many Christians get their faith corrupted in so many insidious ways. I laugh my ass off when politicians wear their religiosity on their sleeves and go right ahead with being the corrupted thieving con artists that they are.

Like someone else mentioned we need to see how many believe in a specific god vs. how many simply believe there is probably something else beyond this universe that most people would call a god.
Yeah that would make more sense, I've always leaned a bit more towards agnosticism rather than atheism just based on how little we know of the universe, but the man made religions here are definitely just made up. I would still vote no on this poll even though I lean towards agnosticism.

I shouldn't be good in hopes that I go to fairy land in the sky when I die. I should be good because it's the right thing to do. I don't need religion or an appeal to a higher power to make me a better human being.

You know, we did have libraries before the internet was commonly available. That was where I first researched religion.

Why is this a bad thing?
I will bite. What one believes is none of other's business rather it is a rock, a star, or a tree. As long as it a clean line between state and religion(s)/belief, it is all about check and balance without its "power corrupt". Not agreeing? Take a look at history.

This is a better poll I read last year.

"Americans' membership in houses of worship continued to decline last year, dropping below 50% for the first time in Gallup's eight-decade trend. In 2020, 47% of Americans said they belonged to a church, synagogue or mosque, down from 50% in 2018 and 70% in 1999. "

20 years or so behind Canada.

When asked, “Do you believe that God exists?”, 59 per cent said that they definitely do or they think so. That number has fallen from 81 per cent in 2000 and 84 per cent in 1985.
